Me too.. altho for a period of time when this was originally posted it did say UFC, but was quickly changed to MMA the next time I checked. This is punishment to Rob for hating on the UFC so damn much.Comment

not bowing down to UFC as the greatest thing ever and the end all be all of MMA does not make you a haterComment

If anything you can say I have a Bias against Dana White and the way he his does business, but I think I'm pretty fair and use 'facts' to back it upLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

I don't know if you guys posted this in the thread yet, and if you did, well, i'm telling you again.
Bellator Fighting Champioships is moving from ESPN Deportes to ESPN 2 next season.
This could potentially end up being one of the biggest stories in the sport in 2010. ESPN has treated MMA with kid gloves the last few years...they covered Chuck/Rampage hard, when they were cautiously courting UFC, but have since pretty much ignored MMA aside from "bottom line" reports & an internet show that they never promote.
That will obviously change. What i'm curious about, is just how hard they promote the show. Buried at 3AM on ESPN 2 means nothing. Prime time airings, with promos on SportsCenter and cross promotion with other programming is key. And they must at least do the finals live, if not the entire run.
ESPN reaches far more homes than Showtime, so unless Strikeforce gets CBS, ESPN has a shot to be the legit #2. The question, is do they want it?Comment

It all comes down to the point I always make....the decision makers are all older guys who were brought up on boxing, and have the "MMA fear". They all see how UFC put Spike on the map, but still can't pull the trigger. The Shamrock/Kimbo debacle dosen't help, but Kimbo was a caculated risk that would have eventually screwed someone.
Would a well promoted MMA show on ESPN outdraw the boxing they currently run? It's a no brainer, 100%, of course. Plus, it draws a better demo. Boxing draws the oldest demo in all of sports, and one of the poorest.
Showtime & CBS were big steps, but until younger, more open minded people get into power, networks will still balk.Comment
