The ongoing TNA releases are due to budget cuts within the company, something that has been ongoing.
The talents released were being paid a monthly guarantee with an additional fee when they were booked for TNA events. The feeling was that with the talents not being used regularly by the promotion, there was no need to keep them held under contract.

There's been a lot of talk of cost-cutting of late in the company with the added expenses of producing Impact on the road, including the departures of different executives, including execs in the marketing and public relations end of the company.

There has also been increased grumbling among some wrestlers about pay coming late, with one talent claiming he has heard stories of talents being two months behind and others confirming they are behind but not wanting to confirm how far behind they are.

So TNA has been doing their best to be WWE-lite all these years and now they're looking at ECW's business practices.

      Good job Dixie.

This is why TNA is second rate.

They have a terrible, absolutely terrible plan of attack.

The money available goes to bloated contracts for guys that saw their last relevant work a decade ago and no longer draw a dime. This ends up applying for at least 85% of the money available, guaranteed over probably 10% of the talent. The rest of the roster makes shit and are generally locked in from taking real deal, solid paying Indy bookings.

Just a terrible model of business.

TNA needs to just die already. I was a big fan in the 05-09 era, but it's ran it's course and we all know that it doesn't have the business savvy or the wrestling common sense to get anywhere, much less over the hump. Quit losing money and close the fuckin doors.

Or sell the thing to someone who has a plan at least.

Serious question, for a guy like Joey Ryan, I can't imagine whatever low downside he was getting was worth more than the multitude of indie bookings he could have been taking this whole time. He was barely used on TV or at house shows, at least to my recollection. But being locked into a TNA deal cuts you off from any indie that does iPPV or DVD..which is most of them.

Maybe biss or somebody who is privy to what these TNA downsides are compared to taking 8-10 indie shots per month has more insight. But I think this is why you see guys pass on TNA and stay on the indies. The upside is national TV, obviously. But if you aren't used, you probably lose money.

TNA pulled TJ Perkins from a St.Louis Anarchy show last week, for example. He didn't work for TNA that night to my knowledge.

Should have hired Heyman and gave him the piece of the pie when they approached him.

I imagine you make more money in the Indies than being a jobber in TNA.

These ROH guys might have the right idea. 4-6 ROH shows per month, and they let you pretty much do whatever you want on your free dates.

ACH is on every fucking indie show on earth these days. If he were in TNA, there's a chance he'd be on Impact twice per month, and held hostage the rest of the time. It's a real risk.

I put this on Twitter but think about this.

A wrestling company is being handed money and a prime time television slot by a major cable network and THIS is what they've ended up with.

                      Amazing.

I've often wondered why guys stick with TNA once they made this their policy. As you mentioned unless you're used on every show does that downside guarantee really outweigh what you'd get on indie dates? Is it just guys trying to get a little more stability in their life and not do the weekend warrior thing. I don't know. I'd love to ask someone who has worked for TNA, doesn't want to go back and won't have any qualms about giving numbers and actual facts about it.

Can a wrestling company hit the reset button like I can do in Universe mode in WWE 13?

I think he was cock teasing them. He doesn't want to be associated with failure at this point, because he survived failure once already with his rep not only intact, but enhanced somehow because he's so great at marketing his image.

Unless they were willing to give him "the whole pie" as you put it, and make it an offer he couldn't refuse, he was not going to that cesspool where realistically they are always going to be so far behind as #2 that they are closer to ROH than they ever will be WWE.

Who can blame him. He has such a great gig now. Show up for TV & PPV, easy money, no stress.

Samoa Joe tears Bully apart, wins the belt and has a long ass reign wrestling AJ, Angle, Roode, Aries, etc.

Get the tag division going, push some if the best workers on the midcard and cut the bullshit, dedicate the year to doing nothing like WWE and boom.

If you fail, better off trying to establish your own distinct personality.
