I really wish I had a Ric Flair robe

Hulk Hogan suggested current TNA World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles will soon be getting a new ring name or a modified name as TNA tries to push some of the original TNA wrestlers to the next level.

"What we need to do with these young guys is breathe life into the characters. I came at A.J. with this crazy idea of putting him with Flair and not just turning heel, but - I can't even tell you the name of the character - he's going through this transition right now," Hogan said on RVD's radio show last night.

Hogan said the new regime with Eric Bischoff has looked at the players who were in TNA prior to their arrival and decided some of the wrestlers and the six-sided ring could only get TNA so far without major changes.

"Abyss as he is right now only got him so far like the six-sided ring. They (TNA) were banging a less than 1.0 number for the last three or four years. Styles the way he is, Abyss the way he is, six-sided ring the way it was, it banged a certain number and that was it."

Continuing on the AJ Styles note, part of the idea with the new Ric Flair and AJ Styles storyline is to make AJ a guy who stands out in a crowd, which is why TNA is looking at asking him to bleach his hair blonde. The idea in the angle is that AJ is great inside the ring and Flair is supposed to teach him how to be a World Champion outside the ring.

Seriously, though, how long before Hogan figures that these guys "don't have the talent" to take TNA to the next level and climbs back into the ring? I really hope its a cage match with Ric Flair that has Ultimate Warrior pop up through the ring through a trapdoor. That would be fucking awesome.

Wow. TNA was actually good tonight for the most part, but that main event was horrible.

The Styles/Pope/Joe moment was pretty good.

These commercials at the tail end of the show are killing me.

I haven't watched wrestling in awhile so I guess I'm late but holy shit Scott Hall looks awful. Even by his standards.

A few of us do. Its nowhere what it used to be, but can still produce some solid matches. Its in Philly this weekend? Is it a TV taping?

What's there to watch these days in Japan? Has NOAH bounced back? How about NJPW?

Hogan clearly misses the boat with what is wrong with TNA.

It isn't so much that TNA couldn't pop higher than a 1.4 on a good day because of the six-sided ring or the characters...it has been and will always be about the booking.

Nobody has ever made anyone care about TNA's characters on the large scale...when the company first started, it was basically Jeff Jarrett's playhouse and the entire show revolved around this WWF/WCW never-was. Then they started pulling the WWE/WCW rejects and getting them involved.

They never took the home grown guys and made'em into anything other than mid-carders with talent. You had the occasional push...Joe when feuding with Angle. AJ's pushes were brief before this.

Like I said, no one has ever given TNA's young guys a worthwhile push to stardom.

W2BTD is your best bet for a good answer here...

NJPW did some solid stuff through 2009 that I saw. Not outstanding, but solid.

NOAH still seems to be having issues. They recently cut some talent.

Dragon Gate is where its at in Japan these days (and the US, to be honest). The tv show is very easy to find online, as are the ppv's. I have a website I can link if anyone wants it, but right now I'm posting from my phone.

New Japan is steady as always. Consistantly good but never great.

NOAH is having financial problems but is still my favorite in ring style. Marufuji is still finding his legs as booker/president whatever. KENTA is still out with the torn knee.

I'm not a big All Japan guy. Lots of gimmicks. Few great workers.

Still plenty of random japanese indy stuff to be found, too.

The recent Super J Cup had a bunch of awesome matches and its all on YouTube.

Curious what you think about the Davey Richards situation, W2BTD. Heard some rumors he used EVOLVE and DGUSA to leverage against ROH. Can't blame him if true...

I made a thread about it.

The only real problem I have with Richards, is he told Sapolsky he would finish up his dates with DGUSA & EVOLVE. You cant come down on him for quitting, because ROH gave him a raise and more frequent dates, but you should finish up your bookings, especially when you tell the promoter that's what you intend to do. Even big, bad Vince let's guys finish up dates before they start with the E.

Throw in the fact that Dragon Gate built WM weekend around him, and now he'll be working the ROH shows across the street, well, thats just icing on the cake.
