Good point. Then again, the connection that fans would draw to Steamboat if they did use The American Dragon might be something that the E would want...

As for booking him properly, I have my doubts as well. But I think the aspect of the WWE that I find most frustrating at this point is that everything isn't terrible. I think there is probably more bad than good, but they do manage to get things right. Yeah, getting Orton-Triple H going on forever or one-day title reigns is all bad. But we do get things like UT-HBK at WM, the gradual Punk heel turn, SD as a whole right now, Jericho-Mystero, Miz-Cena before the PPV match, ECW (at least before the trade), the Hart trilogy, and even Maryse-Mickie (not special, but decent). Stuff which reminds you that they can do things right at times. That is more annoying than anything....

Yeah, it's more frustrating for me. Everyone says I'm being negative when I complain but I'm not because they are SO close to doing things right but one way or another fuck them up at the last minute.

I'm more excited about Maryse calling Kelly "pretty" on RAW. That's a porn dying to be made.

He's a guy who has intrigued me for awhile. Seems like his look and approach could allow him to catch on with the fans. Too bad Finlay isn't still on ECW - they could have made an interesting pairing.

I've seen him last in a 6-man tag down here in Tampa... decent heel for the bout and when he was tagged in, he played his part to a 'T'.

Plus, his pump kick (I think it may be the same as Claudio Castignoli's 'Sweet Schwinn Music but I'd need a video comparison) made an impact with the crowd that night because we all thought he booted the face off of one of his opponents.

Also, it was one of D.H. Smith's last matches before he started to really team with Tyson Kidd as he tagged with O'Shaunessy that night.

              EDIT:<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Mp9qRe1OPM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Mp9qRe1OPM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Not the same match, as another guy by the name of Tyler Reks was still one half of the FCW Tag Champs then, but the move's still the same.

McEnroe? If I have, he's either gone by another name or has wrestled when I wasn't there... [EDIT: Now that I've seen the official website, I haven't seen him yet] last time I went to a show, Tyler Reks had won the FCW Heavyweight Championship and Abraham Washington was still the head commish (kayfabe) of the company.

Of course that was about 2 weeks ago so... :ooops:

So I'm watching ECW right now (recorded it) and how does Vince and WWE not realize Shelton's talent. It pisses me off that they can't make guys with so much talent like that future stars. His mic skills aren't bad either, I was actually laughing when he was making fun of Yoshi....then he goes and gets kicked in the skull for the loss, lol.

Oh snap, Abraham Washington making his ECW debut? I saw that guy at the FCW show when I still lived down in Orlando, guy is pretty damn good on the mic. Called the audience terrorists, lol.

The Gogo Plata was created by BJJ Black Belt Nino Schembri, in the orignal version you would reach over there head and grab your foot, harder to pull off in a MMA fight because of the sweat and not wearing a gi, but this was the orignal verison where you transition from the oma plata position

                      <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/euvmgolWBxw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/euvmgolWBxw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The first 1 ever pulled off in MMA competiton was by Shinya Aoki vs Hellboy Hansen, since than Aoki was also the first to pull off the mounted gogo plata

                      <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9PD1cdZ4OHs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9PD1cdZ4OHs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Nick Diaz was the first in America to lock on the gogo plata in Pride against Gomi, first it was thought you needed great flexibility to pull off this hold, but since than heavyweight fighters Brad Imes and the Undertaker have pulled it off showing the effectiveness of the move even in the bigger weight classes
looks like you guys didnt want to discuss the gogo plata and other submissions more, I thought you guys were more savy wrestling fans with high level submission knowledge, I guess I was wrong...

Breaking down submission holds in a wrestling thread will break do the subsention of belief pretty quick.

                            Ugh.

Some of these indy wrestlers must be totally delusional. The redhead guy would be lucky to get a job setting up rings in the WWE.

I feel sorry for some of those guys, actually thinking they have a shot at doing it for a living.

Then again, the WWE employed that Colin Delaney for a few weeks. I guess anything is possible.
Chikara's a different breed from the pro stuff you see on TV these days.

Aside from the heels of the fed making a point of "injuring" the faces (READ: Eddie Kingston; Team F.I.S.T.), the whole thing's geared towards the younger crowd with all the outrageous characters and insane stuff that goes on in and out of the ring.

Now I won't defend the guys who go out there with no wrestling training and take cookie sheets to the face for a living but for those who actually pay their dues and want to entertain others in this fashion... mad respect.

As for Delaney, everything Biss explained is true and if one could compare him to an earlier wrestler it would probably be Mikey Whipwreck from ECW's old days.

Dude couldn't buy a win to save his life but the fans got behind him to root him towards that eventual first victory.

But a case could be made he's the #1 indy wrestler in the world outside of Japan right now.

Sidenote: I wonder what the WWE would rename him?
I disagree. He stands out because he's different. His gimmick is he has no gimmick, and that he's "the best in the world".

Like biss said, he only needs to make on phone call, and he's working WWE tommorow. They clearly like him, because they allowed him to win clean over a contracted guy (Lance Cade) in his "tryout" (it was more of a showcase). They never do that. He has plenty of allies in the company...Regal, Jim Ross, and most inmportantly, HBK.

The other thing about Danielson, is he dosen't need the E. He's realistic enough to know he'd be a mid carder, and he's noted that he actually makes more money working indies than his friends who work the mid card in the WWE. Obviously he's the exception, because he gets booked by all the top indy groups and works Japan (NOAH) a few times per year.

He calls his own shots, makes enough money to live a decent life, and still finds time to train MMA and do all his humanitarian shit. Plus, he's still only in his 20's. He has plenty of time to do "corporate" prowres if he wants.

Edge was injured at the WWE Smackdown/ECW house show last night in San Diego. The injury is said to be to his ankle and the early word is that it is somewhat serious. The injury was suffered after Edge landed badly on his ankle. He has been working banged up lately but no word on if that contributed to the injury.
