Yeah, I realize they have very limited influence at this point. Even guys like Ross had more say, it was still down to Vince's whims. It always will be, until he finally hands over power. Which is probably when he dies.
I'm not surprised that many of these guys have reasonable views of the business and see many of the same problems that fans do - you can get that just from reading some of Ross' blog posts. Its just frustrating that so many recognize it but can't affect anything. Either with the WWE or TNA.Comment

Big Show is the most mishandled piece of talent perhaps in the history of the business.
You should be able to count the number of losses he has had on one hand, and each one should have been memorable and used to elevate a potential star. He should have been used and protected like Andre was in the 70's and 80's.
Instead, he never drew a nickle for the WWE and is portrayed as a comedy figure half the time.
As for the Vince facination with size/toughness...he sees himself as an alpha male, and has a homoerotic facination with other alpha males. Promoters have pushed legit tough guys for decades, but Vince goes a step further and wants his headliners to be good looking and muscular, too. Its all very gay. He overcompinsates. I would not be shocked if Vince is a closet homosexual, but the type who would NEVER act on it, and reject it as a flaw. Think Kevin Spacey's neighbor in "American Beauty".Comment

Ended up ordering that best of the 80s NJPW set. Its on its way. Once I'm through that, I'm thinking of getting the Best of the 80s Texas set they have done more recently... 15 discs in total.

lol, it took government intervention and the possibility of him serving prison time for Vince to push smaller guys (Bret/Shawn).
Ironically, both guys likely used steroids at some point in their careers to bulk up (I know Bret has admitted it in his book, not sure if Shawn has admitted it).

HOLY FUCK that Texas set is epic. It would take me years to watch that.
Top notch booking from about '82-'85 or so. Downright scary how many of the guys on those discs are dead. All of the Von Erichs except Kevin, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, Gary Hart, Terry Gordy, Bruiser Brody, Toni Adams, Bugsy McGraw, Rick Rude, Missing Link, Super Destroyer II, Skandar Akbar, and a bunch of others. I see multiple tag team matches where EVRYONE INVOLVED IS DEAD. Amazing.Comment

Must have been something about working in Texas. Mebbe the Von Erich's curse rubbed off on everyone...? Its odd - I watch old Mid Atlantic, WWF, AWA, Florida, St. Louis... Its nowhere near as bad in that sense.
The more I look over this Texas set, the more I want it. Kinda wish I would got it first, then New Japan. Ah well. Getting both at the same time would be stupid so I'll hold off.Comment

I can agree...but on the other side of the coin, wrestling isn't like it was back then...its tough to protect a guy like that for so long when you are running like the E. If Show was around in the 70's and 80's, he would have been Andre...but, we're in the 2000's now and that kind of booking generally sucks...especially in the E. Sure, WCW got a good kick with guys and their undefeated streaks...but it grows tired at a certain point.
Show gets some of the biggest pops in the company, and has for quite some time. He is instant credibility, too. I really don't have a problem with the way he has been booked. He really is one of the nicer guys you will ever meet from the E, so the comedy persona is just an extension of himself.
RE: Vince's homoeroticism...
He probably does like cock, but has never acted on it...he does overcompensate the muscular, good looking, oiled down MF'rs on TV though.Comment

LOL...that shit is kind of creepy. Some old Miss Elizabeth, Chris Benoit, and Woman promos can be haunting.
Then you watch Woman with Kevin Sullivan and then see Kevin Sullivan in a bathroom with Benoit...man, you just wish Woman would have stuck with Kevin Sullivan's ugly ass.Comment

WWE still edits most if not all references to Benoit and Nancy on the MNW episodes on 24/7. They damn sure edit out all matches Benoit had.
What's weird is sometimes they will edit out random other stuff, I will assume it had Benoit references though.

Well, Cornette, in one of his famous anti-Vince rants (this one about McMahon), called Triple H "a student of the game" but said he isn't willing to risk his position as heir to the throne or his marriage to rock the boat.
Cornette saying anything positive about someone associated with the WWE is a rare occurrence, so I guess that's kind of hopeful. I'd be satisfied if they just stopped with the over-scripted matches, but eliminating "Bryan's virginity" storylines would be a good start as well.S.P.Q.A.
