Well I have heard that Merriman is interested in a career in pro wrestling should football no longer be an option.

Rock's promo may have been a bit all over the place, but he had a great closing.

Rest of the show was meh

Although heel manager Michael Cole is ftw!

Do me a favour. Hook me up with a few of your favourite Mistico matches. I'm curious and don't want to wade through Youtube when I have you at my disposal.

I agree entirely. It's time for the WWE to re-embrace managers.
The two biggest heat producers are, oddly, Cole and Vickie Guerrero.
That's likely an indictment of a wrestling era where faces and heels are too alike.
I mean, really, Orton punts people in the head put them out of the business ... and he's a face?
And John Morrison, worst face ever. The man was born to be a heel.
Justin Gabriel, most miscast heel ever. He should be a wrestling Backstreet Boy, instead they're trying to make him into something he's definitely not.

Mistico doesnt have a ton of matches I love. That's why I left him off my Top 100. He has the benefit of working for CMLL, where most of the better lucha workers reside, so while he's been involved in some good matches, it's hard to say he was the driving force in any of them. I've never seen him carry a bad worker to a good match.

He does all of the lucha spots you would expect. Lots of flying arm drags, head scissors, tope con hilos, etc.

Give me 10 minutes, i'll post some stuff.

This match was pretty good, Mistico vs. Mephisto from New Japan a few years ago.

Mephisto is a pretty good upper mid card heel who was sent on this tour to put over Mistico and make him look good. This was Mistico's first Japan tour so it was a pretty big deal.

He does a lot of stuff with no rhyme or reason, but that's lucha (AAA is much worse, no psychology whatsoever). The WWE powers that be will hate his working style, he will likely take a ton of shit if he doesnt adjust quickly. A lot of the crazy flying he does either won't be allowed or will be frowned upon until/unless he is main eventing.

BTW, the bump he takes at about 4:00 in the second video is scary similar to the bump that ended Rick Rude's career.

Mistico vs. Averno from January 2011 in Japan
Got it from another board, here's the description the guy had:
"This is just a showcase match for japan, it's their final match together to this date as Mistico will be joining the WWE. Overall a pretty great match showcasing mostly what Mistico can do so I thought it would be appropriate for people who've never seen him before. One bad spot though is he goes for a split legged moonsault and falls on his head super hard while his leg is stuck on the top rope. Other than that, good great match. "

Mistico vs. Black Warrior, mask vs mask, 2006, at the hight of his popularity.

Mistico has taken 5 masks in his career, and has won three mask vs hair matches as well. He has taken the masks of major starts like Black Warrior and Oriental among others.

Am I supposed to give "thanks" for every post W2B(4)TD?
If so, that seems very me of you. :D

You get an extra thanks for the Rude reference. Nice.

Heel Mistico was pretty fucking awesome.

Basically, he started to get the John Cena heat from the hardcores, while the kids & womanz kept cheering him. CMLL had the balls to try the heel turn, which the WWE was too pussy to try with Cena.

CMLL pussed out and he went back to being a face shortly afterwards.

I should stress that it's pretty damn hard to have bad matches with guys like Averno, Black Warrior, Volador Jr, etc. These guys are solid veterans.
