When Overeem has his first MMA fight he was 19 years old, a 6'5" LHW
Pretty much like Bones Jones but YOUNGER, now everyone talks about Jones 'filling out' and becoming a HW is a couple years, LOLLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Overeem fought at HW a couple times weighing in at 220-225 range
Against Paul B it was 11/2007 and he was 225 lbs
Against Cro Cop in 9/2008, 10 months later he was 242 lbs, his next big jump in weight was against James Thompson at 10/2009 where he was around 255 lbs which he has been pretty much since than
So he went from 225 to 256, 31 lbs in 2 years
He has said in the past he rarely if ever weight trained to stay in the LHW class, he didnt start lifting until he decided to go to HW, Overeem gassed badly in almost all his fights at LHW when they wouldnt end in the 1 round, he clearly wasnt a LHW and a natural HW, he has a big frame
Dodging the latest test sure doesnt help the cause.
Its much safer to assume he did then think hes a rare exception to the PE rule.Best reason to have a license.

If he showed up as a 243 lb HW by this time next year Itd raise a few eyebrows. Even with the fact he has 8 feet worth of wingspan to fill out.Best reason to have a license.

Jones 84" reach
Overeem 81.5" reach
Very similar guys, I expect Bones to be a HW in a cuple years, but he understands weight cutting better than Overeem at this point or any point in his career because of his wrestling background, weight cutting can be a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage depending on how you do itLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

My point is Overeem looks a hell of alot thicker in that frame than Jones does and it would still be a surprise to see him at that weight so quick.Best reason to have a license.

Eat 8-10 times a day of healthy high protein meals while training your ass off and document the size you put on. The amount of weight Overeem has added over the span of several years is not remotely unrealistic for someone his age.Comment

Strikeforce is a test free environment? Anyway, that's not my point - everyone just assumes that he must be on something because of his gains. As if it's impossible to put on that type of muscle naturally. It is possible, and realistic enough for me to view him the same way I view every other fighter. The chances of him doping is just as equal as everyone else.Comment

ay yay yay.
1. His massive gains were 2 years between SF fights when he was doing Dream.
2. Noone said it was impossible. Implausible =/= Impossible.
3. There is no "chance" of someone doping. Its not something they bump into or get hit by. Hes either doing it or not. He wreaks of a guy who's taken Roids. Only odds are whether he gets caught or not.
4. A pro fighter changing his body that dramatically within 2 years after nearly 8 years at one weight. Doing his fighting in a steroid safe haven. Then dodging the test for his first UFC fight makes it more realistic he's on PED. Not a pure natural fighter.Best reason to have a license.

It is not unrealistic, nor improbable for Overeem to put on his size without drugs.
35lbs over 2 years isn't out of the ordinary. So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

But Ill listen to a counter argument. Please recite some professional level fighters who've also put on 35lbs of pure muscle or more in a 2 year span.Best reason to have a license.

Still ignores that he did so at a time of rampant drug use thus making it stupidly easy to short cut his way there.

The second part is also retarded. Weight based competitions are notorious for people trying to cut as much as possibe, not bulk up. Overeem is the only fighter I can recall trying to bulk, which is probably why so many people assume he juiced.
I don't really need a counter argument, because you don't have an argument. I said I'm not sold on him juicing, what he gained is perfectly normal. I've seen him workout, if juicing he would be bigger imo.
Saying he could have done it isn't an argument against what I've said, so why make a counter argument. PRIDE didn't test either, why was he struggling to get down to 205 instead of juicing his head off? Seems dumb to me.So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.
