I am a bit surprised at the positivity here. 10 years for a title? In what sport is that the norm? Title winning coaches get the axe all the time. Rodgers definitely seems like a good one and he seems a good fit at Liverpool, but I don't know if it's a world where any coach is guaranteed a 5+ year tenure

Thought exercise -

Liverpool win the title this year. What's the lowest average position that would be accepted to guarantee he gets 10 years? CL football from here out? A CL berth every 2-3 years? Just stay in the league, he's already a legend?

I think Arsenal have underachieved and Liverpool kind of support that point. However, I don't think Arsene's Top 4 streak is anything to sneeze at. That kind of consistency is tough and will get harder if money keeps coming in to England. Even then there is a large contingent who want his head

You have to realize that Liverpool is a different club from any other club.

Does Rodgers understand the Liverpool way? Yes.
Does Rodgers respect the history of the club? Yes.
Does Rodgers understand the community? Yes.
Does Rodgers have the desire to defend the club against all odds? Yes.

That combined with a league title would assure that he gets just about as long he wants. Prior to the Owl Face fiasco, Liverpool supporters were a club that stood by their managers as long as they recognized that LFC is more than just a football club.

FSG aren't stupid, if he wins us the league that's instant legend status. Unless things go horrifically off the rails he will have the job for life or however long he pleases. The backlash would be immense, fans wouldn't stand for it. The guy will be going nowhere anytime soon if he/when he pulls this off and I'm not even a staunch Rodgers guy, don't get me wrong I've warmed to him immensely but I'm still wounded from Kenny

The backlash towards the owners who saved the club from near administration and righted the ship? The same owners who basically threw up the middle finger to Suarez when he said he wanted out? John Henry is a gangster. If we win the league, I think it buys BR at least 2-3 years. However, hypothetically 3 years from now if we've finished 7th or something twice in a row, BR would be gone.

All this said, I hope BR reigns for 50 years and we're only disappointed by seasons where we dont win both the league and Champions League. I really don't know why we are even discussing this too.

I think you're vastly underestimating how much winning this title means to the fanbase and how much goodwill it's gonna buy him, winning us number 19 buys him a helluva lot more time than 2-3 years. The Red Sox or even any American franchise and our club are a completely different kettle of fish and I think FSG have owned us long enough now to realize this, sacking Rodgers anytime soon even after an off season or 2 is not gonna fly not that I can see that hypothetical arising tbh. Winning the league might give Rodgers legendary status but these "special Anfield fans" will only want more thereafter. Liverpool have to mount a title challenge every year now, and trophies will be a requirement.
