Yeah, I actually went out of my way to watch it and yeah, it was fine. Certainly not in the conversation for me. I've seen better Bucks ladder matches this year.Comment

I can not imagine a team like #theBucks to get real hype for a TNA match and delivering a match that lives up to their quality. Those guys feed off the crowd...TNA crowds blow dick.Comment

TNA had lightning in a bottle with those two as a tag team, but they let it lose steam. It easily could have been the Two Man Power Trip the WWE tried to do with Austin/H's. They should have had them win the rest of the belts and then have a three-way feud for the title with Bubba.
Just everything about TNA is a joke. The TV title is somewhere with Abyss, they had Aries/Roode feuding with Bad Influence and now putting them together. It's just a disaster and this Aces and 8's storyline continues to suck.Comment

You know August '13 is great when even the Playboy Buddy Rose/Jerry Blackwell/Black Terry crowd over at Pro Wrestling Only concedes that it's in the conversation.
G1 was so good, people who think New Japan is trash are even praising it over there.Comment

Here is why I don't think you'll find a month.
There sheer number of companies that had a big hit will just be too much for any other month to overcome. The WWE had a big month...ROH a well received show...PWG has 3 shows this month...New Japan had G1...several other smaller companies had highlight matches...that is a lot of ground covered with companies having something noteworthy.
You just won't find that volume.Comment

This was brought up in the same thread over at PWO...the lucha heads over there added this to the August splooge fest, as apparently this is the lucha match of the year, or at minimum top 5.
"No less than the third best match this month" is what was said. And these guys watch literally everything.
I'm going to watch it now. I'm prepared to be underwhelmed, because PWO (insert Black Terry joke). But here it is, from 8/4:

welp, that's a half hour i'll never get back
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I'll never understand the fascination with two chubby middle aged men exchanging holds.Comment

Lucha has a few good matches, but this isn't 1994...the good is few and far in between.
A lot of wrestling hipsters keep trying to force a lucha agenda...there just isn't many good, worthy of praise matches...and they definitely don't involve Rey Hechicero.Comment

-First New Japan J-Cup. This of course was the classic one night tournament with Benoit over Sasuke in the finals (5-stars by Meltzer & many other). Many gave Liger/Sasuke semifinal 5-stars as well. This was probably a better show overall than this years SummerSlam. I haven't watched it in years, but remember it being awesome, and it was show of the year for many as the thing was stacked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_J_Cup
-All Japan Champion Carnival was loaded and had many classics. This would be in comparison to this year's G1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champion_Carnival#1994
Some of it was in March, but the big matches and the finals were in April.
Somebody posted this at PWO:
April 1994
#1 - Steve Williams vs Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW Championship Carnival 04/16/94) ****1/2
#2 - Chris Candido vs Tracy Smothers (SMW Bluegrass Brawl 04/01/94) ****1/2
#3 - Great Sasuke vs Jinsei Shinzaki (Michinoku Pro 04/29/94) ****1/2
#4 - Jushin Liger vs Great Sasuke (NJPW Super J Cup 04/16/94) ****1/2
#5 - Wild Pegasus vs Great Sasuke (NJPW Super J Cup 04/16/94) ****1/4
#6 - Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies (SMW Bluegrass Brawl 04/01/94) ****1/4
#7 - Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi (AJPW Championship Carnival 04/10/94) ****
#8 - Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat (WCW Spring Stampede 04/17/94) ****
#9 - Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs Stan Hansen, Giant Baba & Takao Omori (AJPW 04/16/94) ****
#10 - Dustin Rhodes vs Bunkhouse Buck (WCW Spring Stampede 04/17/94) ****
#11 - Jerry Lawler vs Dream Machine (USWA Mid South Coliseum 04/25/94) ****
WrestleMania X had some great stuff but wasn't in April. I think had it been, we'd have a real neck & neck competition here.
I think April '94 & April '13 come closest from what i've seen so far.Comment
