As for your 2nd point, it's just false. San Antonio is one of the smallest media markets in the NBA and they got David Robinson over the Nets and Clippers and even Suns (a top 12 market).

The Magic got the top pick in 1993 over Philly and Golden State and Dallas, all bigger markets.

Milwaukee got it in 1994 over Dallas and Detroit.

Spurs got the Duncan pick over Philly and Boston.

Remember Rick Pitino was coach of the Celtics and the C's roster was a mess, Antoine Walker paired with Tim Duncan=fail. Also the Celtics had already experienced tons of success in the past while the Spurs had a superstar in Robinson that couldn't get over the hump.

I'm a Celtics fan but if he came here in '97 his talent would have been wasted. They made terrible decisions during that era, drafting Ron Mercer, trading Billups his rookie year. Trading a young Joe Johnson for nothing.



Duncan and the league were better off with him going to San Antonio.

Rick Pitino had that Steve Spurrier syndrome he thought he was going to win in the pros with the same guys he won with in college. I think Rick is a damn good coach but he rules with an iron fist and works the hell out of his college kids. NBA players werent bowing to his every command and he didnt adjust to that.

No one is saying they have rigged it every year. But if there ever was a year that they did rig it, it was the '85 draft. The evidence is certainly there.

From Ewing to stars getting every call to Tim Donaughy being swept under the rug, the NBA has been sleazy and dirty for decades. You can even go deeper, into the 60's and 70's, when owners would make lopsided trades with their buddies to alter seasons and help gates.

The NBA doesn't "fix" anything (well, besides Draft Lotteries), but they definitely "nudge" things in certain directions.

Far more pronounced in the NBA over the years than in any other sport.

And I don't feel like doing it right now, but i'm sure you've seen the countless FT disparities in countless NBA Game 7's, and they never favor the Sacramento Kings or Charlotte Hornets.

In gambling circles, it was well known who the "go to" referees have been over the years when it came to certain teams covering spreads or totals going over or under. These things weren't even huge secrets by the time Donaughy became the fall guy.

Magic had a 1.5% chance and got it with Webber (who they abruptly dealt).

I can believe certain refs fuck up (intentionally, perhaps/perhaps not) when there are certain playoff games which are just weird as fuck (Kings). But I don't believe for one second David Stern is some mastermind who rigs lotteries. If I'm an owner not benefiting from it, I'm pissed the fuck off and I don't shut up about getting screwed over.

I would place a bet on that. The fix is definitely in. It just depends on how obvious they decide they want it to be i.e. Minnesota's pick winning the lottery giving the Hornets the #1 and #4 picks.

The Hornets have the third worst record in the league right now. Which gives them nearly a one in six chance of winning. Plus the Minnesota pick increasing their chance.

Whether you believe the lottery is rigged or not that makes this an idiotic guarantee.

I didn't speak from a math standpoint BP, more of a POV that for months, most of the guys here have been saying the lottery will go to the Hornets b/c it's a rigged system.

Not sure how I feel about it being rigged. I think theres a third party watching over it, but not sure what exactly they do. Plus since it's based on odds people will always see patterns that aren't there.
