Those are the seven I think will get in this year. I would love to say Tim Brown but I think they're gonna make him wait a year. If Cris Carter wasn't first ballot neither will Tim Brown.

I've made my case against Martin a million times over the years. If you wanted a guy to get 3 or 4 yards and fall down, Martiin was your man. He started every week, never got hurt, and was consistant. Those arent bad things, but there was nothing dynamic or special about his game. He was better than a lot of guys in his era, but the idea he is an all time great is something I can't accept.

I'm on the fence with Bettis, because he was the premeir short yardage back of his era, and at his peak was a much better player than Martin. Martin never really peaked, he just played every game, got a lot of carries, got his 3 or 4 yards per pop, and quietly went away. There are a million guys I would NEVER put in the HOF who i'd rather have on my team than Martin, like T. Davis, Ricky Watters, Roger Craig, Fred Taylor, etc. Martin was never even close to the best RB during his era, but Bettis was in the conversation from 1996-1999 or so.

Martin was a nice player, your classic stat compiler. Not a game changer, not an all time great.

Largent played when I was young, I have vague memories of him as a player, but he retired holding significant NFL records and was arguably the top WR in the game at points during his era. So I think he's a fairly easy "yes".

Martin retired with no NFL records, and was never realistically considered the best RB of his era at any point.

I watched Martin play his entire career, most of which was up close and personal growing up and living in NJ. I never, at any point, thought I was watching a special, amazing player. He was pretty good.

I was never dazzled by his speed, quickness or agility. But I do remember being impressed with his durability and how he grinded out yards. I don't know if there was another back during that time I'd want to hand the ball off to with a lead in the 4th qtr than Martin.

You say he wasn't a game changer. I guess that depends on how you define it. Was he a guy that was going to shift momentum in a moments notice by breaking off a 60 yard run? Of course not. But was he a guy that shifted momentum by leading his offense to 15+ play 7:00+ drives?

He didn't hold an NFL record when he retired. But there has been only 4 backs in NFL history to rush for more than 14,000 yards, and I think you can make the case that they could possibly be the only 4 men to do so. Should Martin be spoken in the same breath as Payton, Smith, and Sanders? Of course not. But hitting that mark IMO makes you a HOF.

I know you went round and round with this in another thread, so this will be as far as I'll take it. Regardless of what is said here, he's going to be inducted anyway. I just thought your take was interesting and I appreciate you explaining it.
