Alistair Overeem Fails Drug Test - Out Until January 2013

Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is unlikely to fight champion Junior Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) for the UFC heavyweight title this summer at UFC 146.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the No. 1 heavyweight contender failed a pre-fight drug test conducted this past Tuesday following a press conference for UFC 146.

Overeem's "A" sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exeeded 10-to-1, well over the 6-to-1 limit. Kizer said the heavyweight has the right to request the test's "B" sample, which, if negative, would make him eligible to receive a fight license.

The former Strikeforce champion was among six top-billed fighters who were tested for the all-heavyweight pay-per-view event, which takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. All were tested for diuretics, masking agents, anabolic steroids and T/E ratios in addition to drugs of abuse.

Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva all passed their tests.

Yes, that you don't know what you're talking about, while trying to condemn an athlete.

MMA fans and the media need to learn about boundaries and respect. If you're going to accuse someone of using their sick mother as an excuse to skip a drug test, you better make damn sure that's 100% the case or keep your mouth closed. Not talking about anyone here, just saying in general everyone jumped to too many conclusions when they knew his situation so to put those type of accusations out there is unprofessional and heartless.

He had reason to miss the initial test, he then took a blood test as quickly as he could. Case closed, leave it be

When you say things like "no other who missed the deadline has been approved" is silly. They just started random testing. This is something Overeem has never had to do. Also again, his mother obviously has cancer and he packed up and moved his camp which he says is pre planned. He got a test done, which is more thorough than the basic urine panel required by the NSAC, and it came back clean. That was the 21st which is pretty damn fast. He then went and got a UA after he was told it had to be a UA. I'm not really sure what exactly you want the guy to do...

New procedure he's never dealt with

Got a UA but wasn't good enough
Had to fly to another country to get a UA that was
Dealing with sick mother


All for a guy who has never failed a test to begin with.

LOL @ there can't be any more doubts. He stalled a month before taking the proper test, so the test result means nothing. And you would think a guy who has fought in the U.S. before would be familiar with the procedures and know the correct test to take.

This guy is such a fraud, even rob knows it, which is why he made this sarcastic thread.

This reminds me of that David Boston is legit thread back in MM.

I cant fathom how Overeem being a roid monster and dodging the test is anything but a forgone conclusion
