The Tigers were on the losing end of a 6-2 score tonight, as the Yankees won before 34,100 fans at Comerica Park. Clete Thomas knocked in 1 run off a sacrifice fly and went 2 for 3 to provide some offense for the Tigers. Otherwise, the Tigers offense was relatively quiet, leaving runners in scoring position in more innings than one. Carlos Guillen hit in his 19th straight game against the Yankees tonight, including a solo shot to give the Tigers the win.

The Tigers escaped with a narrow victory tonight, beating the Yankees 1-0 in front of 32,197 fans at Comerica Park. Working the 1st 6 innings, Justin Verlander allowed no runs on 7 hits, to claim his 2nd win of the season. The Tigers main source of offense came off the bat of Carlos Guillen who batted 3-3 including a solo shot in the 5th which ended up be the Tigers sole run in this matchup. The two teams conclude their series tomorrow evening, with the Tigers sending Armando Galarraga (3-0, 1.69 ERA) to the mound while Joba Chamberlain (2-2, 4.43 ERA) gets the call for the Yankees. I think I'd be able to drive in more runs considering I'm hitting better with Guillen. Granderson and Polanco seem like they get stranded so often. But then again, considering my understanding of baseball strategy is somewhat limited, not sure if that's the best thing to do. lol.

The Tigers gave the fans at Comerica Park (all 34,602 of them) something to be glad about, nipping the Yankees in tonight's game by the final score of 8-7. Carlos Guillen drilled a 2 run homer off of Brian Bruney in the bottom of the 8th that proved to be the knockout blow in a matchup that saw momentum shifts to both sides over the course of the game. Zach Miner, in relief of Armando Galarraga (who had a very rough outing), entered the game with the Tigers down 5-3, but still managed to earn the win, his 2nd of the season. Miner pitched 3 and 2 thirds innings while giving up 2 runs on 6 hits. The Tigers have a day off before kicking off the month of May with a home series against the Indians. Jeremy Bonderman (1-2, 7.23 ERA) will draw the start against Aaron Laffey (0-2, 7.97 ERA) Guillen, who tore the leather off the ball in the month of April, will look to continue on his hot streak and hit in his 20th straight game.
