Despite having a quiet game at the plate, Miguel Cabrera made some impressive defensive plays on opening day.

Justin Verlander pitched a solid 6 innings allowing only 3 hits until the 7th inning. With Vernon Wells on 1st, Barajas got all of a Verlander fastball and knocked it out of the park. Even so, Verlander put in a good days of work on opening day but the Tigers offense just couldn't bring in any runs, despite getting more hits than the Blue Jays.

Man that sucked. I was doing well until I just got lazy with one pitch and Barajas made me pay for it. Just couldn't get a big hit all game unfortunately. Halladay's pretty good though so I'm not worried. I'm actually content I was able to hold them to 2 runs. lol. Had my offense been there I'd have gotten the win.

lol, tell me about it. I'm shocked I didn't score. I'm still trying to get the hitting down. I haven't played a baseball game in a very long time.

Tigers Can't Hold On To Lead In Bottom Of The 11th; Lose 2nd Straight

Carlos Guillen belted two out of the yard in a losing effort.

With the Tigers down 3-2 in the top of the 9th, Gerald Laird's solo shot would force the game into extra innings. Carlos Guillen would then knock in a solo shot in the top of the 11th, his 2nd of the ball game but the Tigers would not be able to hold on to the lead. Vernon wells would leadoff the 11th with a single. A poor defensive play on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Lyon would allow Wells to advance to 2nd and Curthis Thigpen to get on 1st. Then a wild pitch would allow both runners to advance to scoring position. John Mcdonald, who was subbed in to run for Scott Rolen in the 9th, would come in and drive a ball to center field for a 2 RBI single as Detroit suffered the walk-off defeat, 5-4 in 11 innings.
