Miggy's magic number in this one was 13. Home run #13 while extending his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Tigers gave their AL Central foes a solid fight tonight but in the end the Twins picked up a 4-3 victory at the Metrodome. Jeremy Bonderman picked up a no-decision despite a dominant start, working 7 innings and allowing only 1 run. Joel Zumaya, who came into the game in relief of a fatigued Bonderman, took the loss, getting lit up for 3 runs in a third of an inning. Brandon Inge had a pair of hits, including a solo home run (his 1st since coming back from injury) in 2 at bats in the Tigers loss.

The series resumes tomorrow night at the Metrodome, with the visiting Tigers going with rookie Rick Porcello (2-2 , 3.54 ERA) and the Twins offering Glen Perkins (3-0 , 3.22 ERA). Miguel Cabrera looks to build on his 13-game hitting streak.

Curtis Granderson slides into 2nd for his 11th stolen base of the year, 1 shy of matching his total from a season ago.

The Tigers treated the Twins like minor-league fodder in the late innings of a big rout for Detroit.

The Tigers jumped all over in the Twins lastnight, winning by a 10-3 count before a crowd of 22,060 fans at the Metrodome. Miguel Cabrera had another one of his clutch performances, getting 3 RBI and banging out 3 hits (2 doubles), in 5 at bats to pace the offense. Allowing 2 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings of work, while striking out 5, Rick Porcello was able to notch his 3rd win of the seaosn.

It'll be the Tigers Dontrelle Willis (3-0 , 3.75 ERA) facing off with Philip Humber (2-1 , 4.36 ERA) in the series finale tomorrow. Cabrera hopes to add to his 14 game hitting streak.

Series Review:

Things We Did Well:

- Finally showed we can bring runs home without having to hit homers.

- They hit the ball for a relatively decent average but only brought in 7 runs on the series. Our pitching staff was able to get out of jams bigtime. The defense helped. Sub 3 ERA on the series. Hard to beat if you make the other guys fill the scoreboard with bagels.

- No homers on their behalf for the series as well. It's refreshing after Cleveland killed us with the long ball.

Things We Didn't Do Well:

- We played a very good series so there isn't much we did wrong. Well, minus the fact Zumaya blowing the 1st game of the series. Get it together Joel.

- Marcus Thames continues to struggle. Any teams around the league looking for a power outfielder?​

Cabrera's Streak Ends At 14

Although Miguel Cabrera's 14-game hitting streak ended right before he could carry it home to Detroit, the Tigers were able to easily dispose of the Twins in their rubber match at the Metrodome.

The Tigers' 1st baseman seems to have developed a whole new appreciation for the greatness of Joe DiMaggio.

“It makes you realize how much better 56 is than 14,” Cabrera said, referring to Joe's record hitting streak in 1941. “That’s a long time. To get a hit every single game, there’s got to be a little bit of luck involved.”

“I’m not relieved it’s over, because I would have liked to keep it going for as long as I can,” added Cabrera, “But it’ll be good to go back to the usual routine. I’ve said every day that I’d rather win. We are having a great year so far.”

Cabrera got no luck in the Tigers’ 8-1 victory over the Twins, going 0 for 5. He never got the ball out of the infield, grounding into a double play in his final at bat.

“We all had fun, we all enjoyed it, and tomorrow is the next day to start a new one,” said Tigers' center fielder Curtis Granderson, who helped carry the Tigers to victory despite Cabreras 0'fer.

The Tigers begin a series back in Detroit against the Oakland A's tonight.​

Where did this power come from? Curtis Granderson going yard is becoming a familiar sight at Comerica.

The score of tonight's game was 7-3, as the Tigers took care of the Athletics to send the 25,182 fans at Comerica Park away with a smile - at least until they got to the jammed parking lot. Worst. Traffic. Ever. Justin Verlander worked a solid game, giving up 3 runs in a complete game of work on his way to win number 4 of the season. Curtis Granderson homered yet again, and drove in 3 runs to lead the way for the Tigers.
