Young To Move Down In Lineup

With Michael Young having a less than stellar month of June and the bottom third of the Tigers lineup holding their own, Tigers manager Jim Leyland has decided to shuffle the Tigers lineup.

The Tigers will utilize the following lineup in hopes of Young finding his swing again. Until then, Young will bat out of the 9th spot.

Liriano's Struggles Continue, Bonderman Pitches 2nd Complete Game Of 2009

After a sub-par month of June, Michael Young kicked off July with a solid 3 for 4 performance that included this solo shot in the 4th.

The Tigers sent the tough lefty Francisco Liriano to defeat playing under the lights at the Metrodome in Minnesota. The final score against the Twins was 6-2. Jeremy Bonderman was terrific in the win, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, to claim his 6th win of the season. Carlos Guillen and Michael Young were both forces offensively with matching statlines, both going 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI as they led the Tigers to a win in the first game of July.

The series continues under the lights tomorrow night, with Rick Porcello (6-5 , 3.39 ERA) going for the Tigers against Kevin Slowey (8-6 , 3.40 ERA) and the Twins. Magglio Ordonez will look to build on his current 12-game hitting streak.

The Tigers could not extend their winning ways as they fell on the road to their AL Central foes. In front of 17, 684 hostile fans at the Metrodome tonight, the Tigers were defeated 8-3 by the Twins. Pacing the offense was Curtis Granderson, who drove in 1 run and went 2 for 4 on the day. Rick Porcello got the call, but he wasn't sharp in his 6 and two thirds innings, yielding 8 runs (only 3 earned) on 11 hits, as the loss dropped his record to 6-6.

It'll be the Tigers Justin Verlander (6-5 , 2.37 ERA) facing off with Nick Blackburn (4-5 , 4.50 ERA) in the series finale at the Metrodome tomorrow night. Magglio Ordonez will look to build on his 13-game hitting streak.

Why isnt Granderson batting leadoff?

I started off the season with Granderson leadoff and Polanco 2nd.

Early in the season, Polanco went down with an injury. Not too long after that, Inge went down. Somewhere around that time I had Guillen playing 3rd and Josh Anderson out in left field. I figured it was a good time to try out Anderson lead off and Granderson 2nd and it worked so I've stuck with it.

Granderson's speed/power/ability to hit into the gap combo works well hitting 2nd behind Anderson. Polanco has come back from injury somewhat slow which is why I stuck him in the 7 spot.

Today's game was close, but in the end the Tigers could not push across enough runs, losing to the Twins in a 3-1 AL Central contest. Justin Verlander (6-6) took the loss, despite another solid outing, allowing only 3 runs in 7 innings of work. Giving the offense a mild boost, was Placido Polanco who went 2 for 3 on the day and scored the only Tigers run.

Edwin Jackson (7-1 , 3.22 ERA) toes the rubber for the Tigers against the Royals and Gil Meche (6-6 , 2.94 ERA) tomorrow night, in the first game of a 6 game homestand for the Tigers.
