Bonderman Gets Roughed Up, Astros Take Game 2

Jeremy Bonderman could only hang his head after Lance Berkman blasted a 2 run shot that put the Astros out in front 5-2.

The Tigers ended up on the losing end of a 5-4 affair with the Astros tonight in Houston. Miguel Cabrera brought in 2 runs on a 1 for 3 performance at the plate in the losing effort. Jeremy Bonderman was the starter and loser, working 5 innings and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits in defeat.

Astros second baseman Kazuo Matsui suffered from shoulder soreness early in the contest and left the game early and is now listed as day to day.

The series will wrap up tomorrow afternoon, with the Tigers starting Rick Porcello (5-5 , 3.26 ERA) and the Astros turning to Russ Ortiz (3-2 , 3.81 ERA).

That game was rough. I had runners on the corners in the bottom of the 9th but couldn't bring Guillen home. Granderson 0-5....I guess playing him with a strained finger wasn't such a good idea. :y:

Astros right fielder Hunter Pence couldn't quite bring Josh Anderson's 3 run shot in the 4th back into the park.

In today's series finale, the AL reigned supreme as the Tigers beat the Astros by the final score of 10-5 with 35,714 fans on hand at Minute Maid Park. Josh Anderson went 1 for 4 with a 3 run home run (2nd home run of the series, 3rd of the year) to give the club a jolt offensively. Rick Porcello worked the first 7 frames to earn his 6th win of the year, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and sitting down 8 batters on strikes.

Rodney Blows Another Save And Steals Another Win From A Starter

With runners in scoring position, Mike Hessman makes an incredible diving stop at the hot corner.

The visting Tigers needed extra innings to beat the Athletics 4-2 tonight at the Oakland Coliseum, eventually emerging victorious after playing 10 frames. Magglio Ordonez drove in 2 runs on 3 hits to help the club pick up the win. Justin Verlander gave up 1 run on 8 hits over 7 and a third innings but did not factor in the decision, despite getting his 12th quality start of the year. Verlander did not factor into the decision after closer Fernando Rodney gave up a solo shot to Jack Cust that knotted the game up at 2 runs a piece in the bottom of the 9th. However, the Tigers rallied back and scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th to seal the deal and get Rodney his 4th win of the month and year.

Game 2 is tomorrow evening, with Edwin Jackson (6-1 , 2.95 ERA) taking the mound for the visiting Tigers and Dalls Braden (5-7 , 4.38 ERA) getting the nod for the Athletics. Magglio Ordonez looks to build on his 10 game hitting streak.

Curtis Granderson was an absolute force offensively, going 5 for 6 with a home run and 2 RBI to lead the charge. Edwin Jackson stretched his winning streak to 6, giving up 5 runs and 11 hits over 7 innings to collect his 7th win of the season.

Gerald Laird raises his fist after coming in with the go-ahead run as Ryan Church beats out the throw at 1st.

It took them 10 innings, but the visting Tigers defeated the Athletics 4-3 and completed a 3 game sweep in front of 27,998 fans at Oakland Coliseum. Ryan Church put the club out in front with a pinch hit RBI single in the 10th to give the club the jolt needed to earn their 4th straight win. Starter Dontrelle Willis picked up a no-decision, after leaving a tie game after working 7 innings and allowing only 3 runs. Juan Rincon allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings of relief to get the win, his 3rd of the season.

Brandon Inge is day-to-day after being removed from the game with a bruised leg. Inge bruised the leg after sliding back into first on a pickoff attempt.

The Tigers are in Minnesota tomorrow night to face the division rival twin, who will give the nod to their ace Francisco Liriano (4-8 , 4.53 ERA) while the Tigers will counter with Jeremy Bonderman (5-5 , 2.61 ERA).
