Another Year, Another Off-Season
The Mets will have some changes coming to them this off-season, with free agents coming and going, and possible trades occurring.
Catcher
Omir Santos impressed the front office and fans last season with a .328 batting average, a career high for Santos. He also put up 16 home runs, 92 RBI, but 76 strikeouts. Santos will be going into arbitration after the season, and it seems that the Mets want to lock him up to an extension before that. His fielding was decent, with only 4 errors, but a caught stealing percentage of only 25%, which the Mets will surely want him to raise.
2012 OUTLOOK: Look to see Omir Santos behind the plate again for the Mets.
First Base
Daniel Murphy was given the chance to prove himself at first base this past season, and he took full advantage of it. His batting average stayed the same at .277, but Murphy slugged 25 home runs and had 108 RBI's. He worked on his fielding, and lowered his errors from 15 in 2010 to 7 in 2011. Murphy will be eligible for free agency after the season, and is rumored to only be looking for a contract between $2-5million per season, a relative bargain.
2012 OUTLOOK: Murphy will most likely be resigned, barring any incidents.
Second Base
Orlando Hudson did not live up to his expectations, only hitting .229 last season, but he did bring his strikeouts down from last season. We believe that is due to Hudson missing almost 50 games last season due to injury. Hudson also had a mediocre fielding season, a definite downgrade from Luis Castillo. Hudson is under contract until after the 2013 season, so look for him to stick around next season.
2012 OUTLOOK: Hudson will return, but if the opportunity presents itself, he will be gone.
Shortstop/Third Base
David Wright and Jose Reyes will once again be on the left side of the infield for the 2012 season. Wright had another disappointing season offensively, but has told reporters that he will begin off-season training just 2 week after the World Series. Reyes signed a $11.5 million a year contract before the season which will lock him up for six more seasons. If David Wright does not perform this season, we could be looking at a new Mets third baseman.

Outfield
The Mets have already said that they will not be resigning Carlos Beltran after the season. Beltran was looking for at least $18 million per season to resign, and the Mets were not going to pay that much for an aging center fielder. The free agent outfield class is weak, but the Mets could move Daniel Murphy back to the outfield and sign one of the top 1B free agents. Jayson Werth was a disappointment for the Mets, and it has been rumored that they want to trade Werth, as they don't see his batting style ever working well at Citi Field. Jason Bay is the only outfielder that is definitely returning to the organization next year.
2012 OUTLOOK: Bay will return, but look to a new CF, and the chances that Werth returns is slim to none.
Pitchers
The Mets need relievers desperately, once again. Look to the Mets spending the Beltran money on several bullpen arms, as well as an extra arm in the rotation. It has been rumored that teams have been asking about Brandon Webb, and the Mets have been listening to these proposals. We think they will not trade Webb, but keep an eye on this. There are big names such as Capps, Papelbon, and Broxton available to help the Mets in the closer position.
2012 OUTLOOK: Mets will sign at least a closer and two other bullpen arms probably. Look for the rotation to lead with Santana, Lee, and Webb once again.
