I have trouble getting into the Mass Effects games. Can't really explain it. I've tried the first one a ton of times and can never really get into the story or the game. It's definitely an awesome game and I'm sure if I ever really forced myself to get into it I'd enjoy... just haven't gotten to that point.

Sequelitis is the norm because when new and unique games do come out no one buys the fuckers.

I could rattle off about twenty games off the top of my head that came out the last few years that were all good to great games, but because there were new IP's no one gave a fuck.

I would suggest going back and checking out some of those games. You have Gamefly so the options are limitless.

I know Nintendo Power did a feature a few months ago, as several other publications have done, of games that people should be playing but sold like shit. Almost all of them were new IP's.

For instance, look at Enslaved. That game looks cool as fuck and it's made by the developers that made Heavenly Sword. No one gives a shit about Enslaved because it's a new IP. Not to mention that Heavenly Sword was fucking awesome but didn't get nearly the acclaim it deserved. I would buy it day one if I didn't have a mountain of fucking games to play.

^ good point. sequels are so popular cause thats what makes the most money so thats what developers are gonna make. its just how it goes. people see a name brand and are more likely to spend their money on that then an unknown. its a safer bet for a developer to make a sequel that they know is gonna sell then go out on a limb and create something new that might not sell well. wasnt bungie all about making a new IP after halo 3?

I would bet there are more reasons to them not selling than just being new IPs, like a short campaign/story mode, no MP, niche game, etc. No MP would be my guess as to the biggest reason why some of these games did not sell.

Look at Demon's Souls, that was a new IP, but it had quality gameplay, high replayability, and an innovative MP mode, and it sold well.

Then look at Heavenly Sword, which you mentioned. IIRC, the big complaint with that was how short it was, and it didn't have a MP mode to extend the life of the game. A game like that isn't going to sell, no matter how good the actual gameplay is.

Hack n slash genre is having its best year in forever.
Shooting games are all the same but they are hella lot better then anything 5 years ago, such much variety and choice.
The only genre that sucks is racing games, but that's because they have always sucked and will continue to suck.

way to insult everyone whose opinion you dont agree with. If you think RDR is any different then GTA4 then you really dont see anything past whats on the cover. Everything about that game is exactly the same as GTA4, and SA, and Vice City and so on. They just replaced cars with horses and NYC with the old west.

BTW, posting sales related info doesnt mean shit...it actually shows your an ignorant fuck. Saying XBLA and PSN are running stronger than ever is quite funny considering they have nothing to compare to. Having gaming at its highest peak means nothing when the market is being saturated with more games then ever before.

i enjoy alot of games this gen, but nobody is doing anything innovative. The newest craze just a is a copy cat of the wii motion controls

There are always exceptions to the rule. But there are plenty of short, mediocre and even shitty games that are known IP's that still seel through the roof.

But maybe JMS is just going through a phase? I hear of this all the time. With all the gaming podcasts I listen to you hear people writing or calling in all th etime where they say they have lost interest in gaming and are asking for advice on what games to play to get them back into it. People that are hardcore gamers just completely lose interest in them all of a sudden. Sometimes it's just a 'funk' and sometimes they just never get back back to gaming.

I've went through periods of a few days or a few weeks were I wasn't really interested in games but have always come back.

Because once you've forked over that $60, you cant go back. You're going to have to scrape up a few games to trade in to redeem your bad purchase. Only thing that fucks me over is these online passes. But I dont care for online play. It's more stress than fun in my experiences.

I've literally rented each major, minor, and under the radar release in the past 2 years. Haven't bought a game since GTA IV. And I don't plan to in the near future.

Pretty much $20 bucks off retail(compared to the promotions you see at TRU, etc that's about the same deal). And as soon as you keep that game, the next game you have in your queue will be shipping out ASAP. So, you're not missing out at all with your monthly fee.

I've kept, I think, 3 games from gamefly in my 4 years of subscription. And bought 2 games from the store for $5 bucks, and $1.85. It's been a pretty good deal with gamefly. I've not missed out on a single release, that I wanted.

EDIT: I feel like I should be paid from gamefly. I'm always a fucking spokesperson for the service.

I'm interested in Black Ops because of the Vietnam/Cambodia setting. But I probably won't buy it. I guess we're just waiting for the next big thing to come about. The next new genre change/creation. Like GTA. It really defined open-world gameplay, though I think one of the Driver games did it first.
