"Arrive, Raise Hell, Leave" | Kentucky Wildcats

Kentucky
Win Over UGA Boosts Recruiting
Kentucky did not just beat Georgia, it was a statement win that could prove to be a seismic shift in the SEC East. Kentucky has been raiding the state of Georgia for recruiting, and it is starting to pay off. The Wildcats' roster is made up of more players from the Peach state than the Bluegrass state. That continued this week, following the final home game of the season.

In front of a large, nationally televised audience, the number-two team in the country beat Georgia by four touchdowns. that type of win was enough to get the attention of recruits from Georgia. Four players committed after the win, with three being from Georgia. One of which, three-star linebacker Craig Price, chose UK over UGA and Georgia Tech.

Along with Price, the team inked another Goergia linebacker Clinton Foster. Foster is very small (only 5'9") but plays much larger and reminds many of former Kentucky All-SEC linebacker Danny Trevathan. Foster was also a special teams star that had two return touchdowns in a game for Columbia High School. Between Foster's big play ability and Price's big, physical play - the team landed two future stars at linebacker.

The team nabbed a four star talent Cortez Willis after being the only SEC team to offer Willis a scholarship. Willis' big senior year started to attract SEC schools like Ole Miss and Kentucky, but the Wildcats were quick to offer a spot. Before that, Willis was close to committing to Northwestern, but he found a home with another team of Wildcats. Willis is another return specialist that has grown into a strong corner that led his team in tackles and interceptions.

Finally, Kentucky kept up their out-of-state ways by getting another corner, this time from Tennessee: Orlando Poole. Poole played both ways for Cookeville Community High School, thinking he might be recruited as a receiver. He didn't start playing the corner position until his senior year. Poole was getting recruited heavily by the B1G Ten, with Maryland being the heavy favorite. Poole was holding out for University of Tennessee, but instead picked his favorite team's rival, heading to Lexington to play his college ball.

Wildcats Named to Award Finalist's Lists
The SEC is well represented in the most recent BCS, AP, and Coaches poll. Six teams are ranked inside the top 25, with four teams in the top 10. The highest ranked is Kentucky, putting together one of the greatest football seasons in the program's history. They have become nationally recognized, especially after the recent dismantling of Georgia. Individual players are starting to get realized as potential NFL prospects, including Patrick Towles - in only his second year as a starter.

Towles will join three other Quarterbacks at this year's College Football Awards ceremony in New York, hosted by ESPN. The redshirt sophomore Quarterback will up against TCU signal-caller Matt Brown and "Jonny Football" (Jonny Manziel of Texas A&M). The three are up for the coveted Davey O'Brien Award, annually given to the nation's best Quarterback. Towles holds the best Quarterback Rating and most yards among the three, but trails Manziel in total yards and Brown in touchdowns.

Also attending the December ceremony will be punter Landon Foster. He will be joined by Michael Branthover of Virginia Tech and Oregon's true freshman Michael Harris. Harris was the top recruited punter in the class of 2014, while Branthover put together a great Senior campaign. Foster is known for pinning opposing returners and putting close to 40% of his punts inside the opponent's 20.

Both players will be joined by their coach, who is expected to be up for the Coach of the Year honor. Stringing together the best regular season in recent memory for UK is probably good enough, especially considering the team's schedule this season. Kentucky has only one game remaining before they take the field in the SEC Championship game. Not wanting to look ahead, the first order of business is keeping rival Tennessee from guaranteeing bowl eligibility.

Kentucky
Top Bluegrass Receiver Sticks in Lexington
The Wildcats just finished their winningest regular season since the 50's. They are eyeing their first BCS Bowl appearance and right now are in a statistical tie with Auburn for a spot in the National Championship game. The SEC Championship game, like in many recent years, has become a play-in game for the BCS National Championship - this year is no different. The Wildcats are enjoying a historically good season, while Auburn's rush attack is one of the best in the nation.

The success for Kentucky has led to a fast start on the recruiting trail. Big Blue just secured their first commitment from an in-state player and it just so happens to be the third highest-rated player in the Bluegrass state. Marshall Green has been recruited by some of the biggest programs in the nation since his sophomore season. He originally looked like firm Notre Dame commitment, but after visiting Lexington during Senior Day and the big win over Georgia, Green changed his mind.

Taking to twitter to announce his change of plans, Green is now "100% committed to UK." He is a track star that also is his high school's point guard. So the three sport athlete's versatility doesn't just stop at different sports. Green looks like a return specialist and a perfect receiver for this pass-oriented offense.

Gordon Takes Home Closest Heisman in History
There was a major surprise at the Heisman ceremony, that started when the final field was announced. Originally, Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin's running back, was not expected. He was not one of the five on the short-list heading into the Conference Championship games, usually when the list is finalized. The race for the Heisman Trophy, before the Conference Championship games, looked like a two-way race between Brandon Wilds and Joe Bergeron.

Then came a 200 yard, three touchdown performance from Melvin Gordon. Not only did it secure Wisconsin a spot in the national championship game along with the B1G Ten title, Gordon was invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony. Thinking he was an after-thought, many were shocked when he was announced as the winner of the 2014 Heisman Trophy.

It was the closest final vote for the Heisman Trophy in the history of the award. Gordon received 1,729 total votes, only six more than Texas' running back Joe Bergeron. Bergeron did snag more first place votes (329 to 322), but Gordon made up the difference in second and third place votes. Mack Brown chalked up the controversy to "geographical bias," with B1G Ten voters taking Ameer Abdullah ahead of Bergeron on some ballots. While that is unknown, Melvin Gordon now prepares for the BCS Championship game with the Heisman Trophy in his possession.

Totally lost interest in this, mainly because I've playing a lot of basketball and getting ready for baseball. I guess I'll put this to bed, already have next year's dynasty ready. Kind of excited about it, to be honest. Thanks to everyone who followed.

Season Wrap:
- So we got snubbed of a BCS Bowl because no conference can send 3 teams (bullshit rule). So we got stuck in the Capital One Bowl against Maryland (7-5). They lost five straight games during the season (@ West Virginia, vs. Northwestern, vs. Indiana, vs. Ohio State, @ Wisconsin), but somehow were good enough for the Capital One Bowl?

- We destroyed Maryland and Towles broke the Season Passing Yards school record. He had a dope season, really like playing with Towles. He decided to stay in school, same with Landon Collins. Daryl Collins left early and Reese Phillips transferred to Middle Tennessee

- Auburn beat Wisconsin in the BCS Championship, only by 3. So that means the state of Alabama has won every BCS title in this decade. Oh and the SEC streak continued as well.

- I finished 12-2 (7-2 in the SEC), just another reason UK should have offered Kirby Smart a billion dollars to take over that program. But hopefully Stoops does a good job, I'm now a fan of Big Blue, definitely rooting for them this season.

- The NCAA '14 Dynasty will be posted around the start of June.

Looking forward to it either way. NBA is about to hit the playoffs, but baseball may last longer since the season just began. Love when your franchises last a while though.
