Here is the Texas St Bobcats we came to know and, unfortunetaly, love during all of last season. Turnovers, Injuries, Miscues, Blown coverages, etc you name it, it went wrong for the Bobcats. Freshman QB Gabe Leftwich was knocked out of the game on his 3 play with a concussion. HBs Gay and Franks also battled lingering injuries for the majority of the first 3 quarters. QB Delancellotti replaced Leftwich and threw 3 INT's. Coach Long yanked him in favor of 3rd stringer QB Arndt. He went on to have a pretty decent day, despite the stout defence they faced. The run game was completely non existent from the very first play of the game. Arndt and DeLancellotti were sacked a combined 5 times by the Hokies defense and was stopped cold on almost every running play. The 4th quarter we saw nothing but pass plays by Arndt and Co. This was a punishing defeat, but noone should really be surprised. The Hokies are looking to make a run at the ACC title this year and the Bobcats, well, they are still "rebuilding". Week 3 pits the Bobcats against the LSU Tigers. This could get ugly.

Bitter Defeat to LSU leaves Texas St at 1-2; Final 24-13

Gabe Leftwich led his team valiently in loss to LSU

HB Gay scores on a long run in the 1st Quarter

Despite the L in the Loss column, the Texas St Bobcats played lights out and not only kept up with the Tigers, but actually outplayed them for the majority of the game. Not only did their offense outgain LSUs, but they made less turnovers. What killed Texas St was not converting on 3rd down after multiple 50+yard drives. Freshman QB Gabe Leftwich did outstanding in moving the chains, but as I stated he/his teammates just could not get the ball rolling on 3rd down. The Bobcats actually had a 3 point lead going into the 2nd quarter, but LSU's running game was extremely consistent and they were able to eat up a lot of clock time. Once Texas St finally got the ball, they would drive down the field, but more often than not, fizzle out around mid field and have to punt or kick a field goal. The Bobcats one TD came in the 1st quarter with HB Gay broke out on the left side for a 50 yd TD run. The Bobcats played very well and actually should be confident going home to face Wyoming next week.

Wyoming was completely dominating Texas State in the first half. The score was 17-0 going into the 3rd quarter and it seemed like all hope was lost. The offense was flat and the defense was giving up huge plays left and right. Something must have been said that really fired up the team because the Bobcats came out swinging in the 3rd quarter. Wyoming scored on their first possession in the 3rd to go up 24-0, but the Bobcats scored on 2 straight passing drives to make the score a respectable 24-14. Wyoming added another TD just before the 4th to go up 30-14 (2 pt conversion failed). Freshman QB Gabe Leftwich connected with WR Battle on his 3rd passing TD of the day with 4 minutes and 35 seconds remaining in the game to make the score 30-20 (missed FG). Wyoming made it all the way to the 15 yard line, but stalled out and kicked a field goal. 33-20 with 3 minutes and 19 seconds remaining. Gabe Leftwich tossed a couple short passes and a couple of short runs here and there and finally threw a beautiful streak to WR Millburn for a TD with 2:43 left in the game (FG is good). 33-27 now. Wyoming just has to hang onto the ball and continue to spread it out like they have been doing all game. However with 1:02 left in the game and on 3rd and 6, Wyoming QB Brad Smith fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Texas St. With just 55 seconds left, Gabe Leftwich marched his team down to the 3 yd line. With no timeouts he had to hurry up to spot of the last completed pass at the 3 and spike it. 4....3....2....1...SPIKE! Incredibly he was able to stop the clock with 1 second left on the 3 yard line. Leftwich play actioned left and roll right to find a wide open HB Gay in the endzone! Texas St scored 21 points in the 4th quarter to comeback and win it in one of the most dramatic finishes I have ever seen. Gabe Leftiwch completely took charge of the game and established over 400 yds of offense BY HIMSELF. With the excitement surrounding this win, look for the Bobcats to destroy North Texas in week 5.

In a clash of Texas teams, Texas St comes out on top; 38-28

Once again Gabe Leftwich put the team on his back in this win

HB Gay on the receiving end of a Leftwich TD pass

Offensive Coordinator Ryan Long of the Texas St Bobcats may have found his very own "Cam Newton". This kid, Gabe Leftwich, can do it all. Pass, Run, hell I am sure he could even catch the ball if need be and he is only a FRESHMAN. Once again this kid lead his team to a victory, matching their previous years total of 3 wins. Leftwich was non stop in his play execution throughout the game and did not let up even when they were up by 21 points. It's a good thing he didn't, too, because North Texas mounted a huge comeback in the 4th quarter to come within 3. Leftwich came through, once again, on a 4 yard TD run with only 2 minutes remaining. Leftwich connected early in the 1st quarter with his new number one receiver HB Gay. He found him again early in the 3rd quarter to put Gays receiving totals over 100 yards. The defense played extremely well until the 4th quarter, where they let up 21 points. The Bobcats are now 3-2.

Leftwich drops back for a pass

Gabe Leftwich was flawless through the air, when they actually passed, but he, as well as other rushers, really struggled on the ground today. Leftwich was the only player to break 50 yds on the day and no one found the end zone on the ground. Indiana's defense played extremely agressive against Texas St and shut down the Option run almost every time. Indiana had a few miscues throughout the game, but managed to bounce back late in the 4th quarter to take the 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes remaining. They continued their stout defense and prevented Texas St from picking up the first down needed to get into field goal range. HB Gay once again had a huge receiving TD in this game early in the 2nd quarter. Many fans took to the internet displaying their angry with the coaching staff. One comment on Twitter said "Offensive Coordinator Ryan Long should have thrown more. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing".
