We've all seen sophisticated physics engines shred simulated vehicles like tin foil, but imagine applying that same processing power to two charging gorillas on the gridiron. Instead of running those meatheads into each other and watching one of a handful of canned and repetitive tackle animations, Backbreaker's Euphoria engine conjures up dynamic collisions that are both realistic and bone-jarring.

The players populating this football upstart won't be modeled on real NFL superstars (due to EA's continued exclusivity) but every one will house a complex collection of simulated flesh, bone, and protection. The result? Just as you're unlikely to see the exact same circumstances unfold in any two televised games, so does Backbreaker promise to make every down a unique experience. Better yet, the same physics system could just as easily showcase epic wrecks of contorted limbs that even the game's designers couldn't have foreseen.

Few details are available about the rest of the game's components, but we do know the developers hope to immerse fans in the tense atmosphere of on-the-field decision-making, from the quarterback's desperate search for a receiver to a tackler's quest to put him on the ground by any means necessary. Besides, even if Backbreaker proves too ambitious for its own good, the added competition should help to improve everyone's game.

I've been keeping my eye on this game for awhile. I hope it comes out I would definitely buy it. Too bad EA has the rights to the NFL. The sounds and like the stadium (8 section high? haha) are rediculous at times but I don't care. It's all about the gameplay. Even without NFL rights it would give EA a little pressure to either buy them or release a better product.

I've been on their forums for a year and a half.

On Feb 13th someone had asked about when info would finally begin to become public and their response was suggesting 2 months away.

2 Months away would be this coming Monday.

They just had some focus group testing done yesterday and film crew in (for what...we don't know) so it's possible that info on this game will finally surface in the short term future.

They've confirmed we'll know all about this game before E3.

A release date exists, though still unannounced (I'm guessing sometime in the Fall?)

If I made a football game that had to compete with Madden, two things I would do right away is make a sick tackling engine, and have the teams play in an enormous colliseum.

what I noticed is with some tweaking it could be incredibly realistic... its just the fact that when the guys make a tackle you see the ball carrier just turn into a dummy or something and go rag doll.

like, I don't know how you fumble on someone tackling you in the feet, but I understand that this can't be a finished form of the game.

its just this is all I've heard about, and I haven't seen ANYTHING other then those 2 or 3 videos, and those 2 or 3 videos have been out for months now.

I think this game is still happening, I don't know why they are keeping so hush hush about it. Maybe they are waiting until around the time madden comes out? It does look sick though.
