I had found that to be the case for me for awhile, too. I think it's the fact that you can pick up iRacing and find an online race whenever you want. Plus the fact that they have numerous types of race cars. It just seems that a lot of sims focus on road cars, and that doesn't interest me at all. I'm excited about this game b/c of the great track list and the fact that it focuses on racing instead of collecting road cars.

I'll be on most of the day playing anyways since I'm reviewing the game. So whenever you want to hop on, feel free. Just log in to Razer and I'm sure I'll have my mic on. If you're looking for a specific time that we might see everyone on... probably 8pm ET or so.
We'll do a bunch of random races using different cars, tracks, time of day, weather, etc. I have two combos that I want to start off with: GT4 at La Sarthe Bugatti and Clio Cup at Brno. Other than that, feel free to suggest stuff and we'll all run it together (I'd prefer no road cars, though).

Retro touring is very high on my list. Garrett is a big open-wheel fan so I'm sure we'll do some Formula Gulf or Formula C.
Btw... Interesting thing I came across today: Steam now says the game unlocks tomorrow evening (5pm CDT for me) instead of late night/early morning.

I started up my single player career last night. Decided to start at the bottom of the Touring Car/GT ladder in the Renault Clio Cup series.
Quickly discovered that there are specific rules to each series in the game. For Clio Cup, during a race weekend there's one practice session, one qualifying session and two races - the second of which requires a pit stop. I really like that. Gives each series a unique feel. (there's also things like bonus points for fastest lap in the race)
Anyways... So I'm in the first round of the season in the second race. I'm running P4 when the first two guy duck off into the pits early in the race leaving me and the guy in front of me to do battle for a few laps. I end up following up into the pits and was able to beat him out. I come out right behind P1 and P2.
Now comes the point this rambling... me and the guy in P2 battle nose to tail for the final four laps of the race. Pretty clean racing (a light touch here and there). We traded places a few times, ran side by side at times. It was a quality of racing that I haven't had with AI before, it's usually only something that comes with good multiplayer racing. It felt like an actual race. For those of you who've played games like Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo, F1, etc... you know that it's hard to find good racing in single player that feels like racing. It's usually getting your ass kicked by the AI or the entire field feels like an overtaking challenge. It's terrible.
Anyways... here's the final four laps of my race at Donington Park in the Renault Clio Cup.

Well done Swarley! I did about an hour and half with the game last night trying different cars. I started a "prototype I" career and ended up finishing 2nd at the Glen. Obviously it's a track I know very well and had AI only at 80% but the game felt good without any setup adjustments.
Definitely more forgiving than iracing but will start loosing up the cars up a little with some custom setups. Overall what I see from career mode I like so far but haven't spent enough time to make a full review of the game.

Finished up season 1 in the Clio Cups tonight. 5 rounds with 2 races in each round. Didn't win any races but I finished 3rd in the championship. My best finish came from the 2nd race of the final round at Brands Hatch. Finished P2. I had the car to win but I got beaten on pit road by the guy who took it. Bummer, but it was a lot of fun.
I'm now in the offseason and doing some one-off events that I got invited to. Got my first career win!!! I took the win at Spa in the '80s BMW M1 Procar race.

Swarley, what kind of wheel do you use? I've been looking to get into racing games on the PC, but want a good wheel. That's if you even use a wheel. Haha.

I have the Logitech G27. It's probably the best when you consider the price and what you get. There are a lot of better wheels out there, but you can pick this up for $200-250 and you get a solid wheel, pedal set with clutch and a shifter. At some point I'd like to upgrade to the Thrustmaster T300. That one has a fantastic base but it's also $400 and it comes with crappy pedals that I'd probably want to upgrade to something else like a Fanatec pedal set.
So really it just depends on your budget. If you want to stay on the lower end, I highly recommend the G27. I wouldn't go for anything cheaper than that as you'll really start to sacrifice quality. If you have plenty of money to burn, there a lot of fun options to look at.

Swarley hit the nail on the head. The G27 is a great entry point for (serious) online racing. It has withstood the test of time and can get you places. If online racing is not your thing you can turn around and sell it fairly quickly. If you really get into sim racing you can upgrade from there (fanatec fanboy), but remember these are not toys, but rather engineered masterpieces... The single most important piece of equipment is going to be your pedals :thumbsup:
