I actually think the closest representation of Heath Ledger's Joker is Grant Morrison's story 'The Joker at Midnight', which can be found in the Batman and Son trade

ON TOPIC - I have to wait for some reviews on this one. It looks really cool, but I don't know if the gameplay will remain interesting beyond an hour or so. Hopefully, and if so, its a must buy for me

Speaking of Batman and the comics is there a general collection, graphic novel or other wise that basically encompasses the entire history? I could've sworn back when I was in high school I checked out a graphic novel type book on Batman from the library that was basically an encyclopedia of everything Batman. But i can't seem to find it on Amazon or anywhere else.

And if there isn't a definitive collection which novels should I pick up to cover all the bases? There seem to be so many available.

If you want to start reading Batman comics, go for the graphic novels, not the current montly comics (they suck). I'd start out with these graphic novels: Batman: Year One (title of the book says it all, Batmans origin (Batman Begins was based off of this book), The Long Halloween (Great book, it's a Two Face origin story and it influenced The Dark Knight), The Killing Joke (a great Joker story, it also influenced The Dark Knight), and The Dark Knight Returns (This is a story about an old Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to fight crime once again. Superman co-stars so he can get his ass kicked ). I'd start out with those books, but there's a lot more great graphic novels out there.

Goblin sums it up. I actually think the Killing Joke is overrated, but that's a personal opinion. Alan Moore has written better stuff, and there is better Dark Knight stuff. Joker at Midnight in 'Batman and Son' is, IMO, a better Joker representation (deals with Joker's multiple personalities, etc) but jumping into Grant Morrison's run on Batman can be very confusing (I read a LOT and was still confused by Batman and Son/Black Glove/RIP). Hush is a good Batman story too, widely available for pretty cheap
