I voted Sanders, give him Walter Peytons O-Line and him living out his full career he would have set RB records like Jerry Rice has WR Records. And guess what he would have done that..... By himself.... ON the Lions for Christ sakes!!

The only RB that ever gets put as no1 with any frequency is Walter Payton. ALOT of coaches players etc put him as no.1. Jim Browns name is there 80% of the time but when its not its always Payton.

Love Emmitt and Barry but only on message boards will those 2 be mentioned as no.1

I will say again though with any greatest RB discussion Payton/Brown/Sanders/Smith ARE the top 4 very very negligible differences between those 4 , its splitting hairs more than any other position....there is a noticable gap to whomever you fill at no.5

Add to the fact that he played during a time where the NFL only had a 10 game schedule. This one is a no-brainer. Jim Brown.

Jim Brown was the most dominant player of his era without a doubt...but he was a 6'2" 235 pound running back in an era where defensive linemen averaged maybe 250 pounds...

With that said, he was no Johnson Riggins.
