BTW, Eli was outstanding during that SB run. Yeah, his stats weren't all-world but he made all the right throws at the right time throughout the playoffs. And the one stat that matters, aside from the wins, is that he only threw the one pick during that whole run and that was on a tip (by his own guy iirc). Yes, overall he's average (maybe a little better) but for a month he was great.

I love the revisionist history that goes on concerning that run. Nobody was talking about the supposed herculean Giants defensive efforts until after the SB. GB carved them up in bad weather a week before. Eli's play had just as much to do with that run as the defense. He was outstanding. Winning three consecutive road games in the playoffs is nearly impossible. Really good QB's go their entire career without winning three road playoff games.

Not trying to take anything away from Eli's run, but 3 out of the last 6 superbowl winners won three games on the road on their way to the Super Bowl. Plus, in four out of the last six years, the road won half or more of their playoff games. It's not as impossible as you are making it out to be.

I had higher expectations for Eli when he came into the NFL. Aside from the playoff run in 07, IMO he's been very average.

Should also add the giants defensive effort especially going into that final game was one of the biggest factors people were talking about at the time.

back on topic, while this is an interesting statistic, i dont know if its applicable. honestly, with the contact rules being what they are, with how quarterbacks are protected, and with all the score raising rule changes that have taken place, you can almost throw out the early half of the record books. The game is really different even compared to 10 years ago.

This is spot on. That's why I say passing offense is becoming more important than great defense in today's NFL. I'm old school, and pretty set in my ways about balance offense, and strong defense. It used to be run and stop the run. Now, it's try and get an upper tier QB, spread it out, and score points. The running game is becoming less important. And offense is becoming more important than defense because of the rule changes.

QB's can hold the ball longer in the pocket because they are protected so much more today. WR's are far more protected today, along with rules changes that favor the WR over the DB.

Defense is still very important, and balance is better than not being balanced, but the passing game has become more important than anything else.
