Big fan of Bill Simmons. I may not always agree with his stuff but he's one of the most prolific columnists out there and his "Book of Basketball" was fantastic.

Do it, it's good, a quick read (even at 700 pages) and it makes one a better NBA fan.

As for the article, loved it, except for the goofy Simmons trying to imitate how LeBron thinks during warm-ups thing. That was just awkward (deadspin readers should know what I mean).


But this article definitely inspired me to watch the entire game vs LA tonight, and I'm so glad I did. When Bron's jumper is on like that, it's not even fair, he might as well be alone out there because there's no stopping him. Then his finishing coast-to-coast lay up tonight was just disgusting. The one where he he outran Artest towards the basket, then split two guys, hung in mid-air and scooped in a layup after the defenders had already landed. That one.

My god, is this guy amazing. I'm so thankful that after years of searching, my generation finally has that definitive Jordan-like athlete.

Kobe is great in his own right, but there shouldn't even be a debate right now. LBJ is the pinnacle of basketball right now, and his peak has yet to come.

This is something that I'm disappointed with, when it comes to the NBA. Lets stop looking for the next Jordan, and start enjoying the first LeBron. I was the same way 10 years ago, wanting to find the next Jordan and see the next "great one" take the throne.

And now ten years later I'm glad that instead of seeing another Jordan I was able to watch Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Melo, Dwight, Bosh, the list goes on.

Just skip it and move onto Chris Ballard's "The Art of a Beautiful Game"... one of the better basketball books I've ever read.

And "The Art of a Beautiful Game" is great too. Completely different style than Simmons' book but still a great read.

I can't stomach the NBA and don't follow it as close as you guys do, but I just finished reading that article on how contraction would be good for the NBA because it's so watered down with scrubs.

I'm not doubting how great LeBron is. I'm not a fan on his but I'm not stupid enough to ignore what he does on the basketball court.

But at the same time, does him playing in a time when the league is "watered down" affect his legacy at all when you're comparing him against the greats like Magic, Jordan, Bird, etc....?

IMO, only when we look back at his career and compare the amount of team success he'll have. I think that no matter what era he played in, no matter how strong the teams, he'd still be exceedingly better than whoever was guarding him. You have to judge him vs. his peers, and he's peerless.

Why do people say these things i mean really its so stupid its like saying if bynum wasnt injured the lakers would of won the championship in 08-09 of course theres a possibility but you never know just b/c of hes doing good in one place with some decent starters doesnt mean it would be all that different with another team in fact he may not be able to fit into the flow, find it difficult to adjust you never know

so stop with the what ifs
