In heinsight yes...but at the time, no way. Renteria was 3 miles ahead of Cabrera at the signing...just didn't respond to the pressure well and fans threw him under the bus quickly.

I'm not really feeling the Cabrera rumor though...for one he is 34 and not as productive as he used to be...let's look passed the inner-fanboy in all of us and be reminded that 2004 was five years ago. Now, I haven't seen his defense in awhile to be honest, but I feel safe saying it's probably not near where it was back then. I mean he's up to 8 errors already this season.

Plus it really makes me sick to see Lugos billion dollar salary sit on the bench haha.

I agree with you about how at the time Renteria was better than Cabrera. But the fans loved Cabrera and Cabrera loved that fans. There were a couple rumors about Cabrera not liking the city/not getting along with the front office. I would like us to get Cabrera but not if its gonna cost us a lot. Which is why it will be unlikely that it happens.

Lugo on the other hand is very close to being done in Boston, With Nick Green getting most of the starts and Jed Lowrie coming off his injury I think the Red Sox will definitely try and deal him(even if they have to pay some of his salary). Lugo probably has the worst range for any SS. I also still think we need to find our SS of the future. I am still not entirely sure Lowrie will be that SS we are all hoping for.

Beckett has been dominating lately...

I also think Ortiz might be coming out of his slump. I dont wanna say he is but his swings are looking much better than they were and it was big that he hit a 95 mph fastball which he has been trouble caching up too. Hopefully he can so he can stop answering stupid questions after each homerun he hits.

Good win tonight, should of had more runs on the board but couldnt cash in on some of the opportunities.
Wakefield is slowly approaching the Red Sox all time win record and 200 wins, I say he gets both sometime next year if he pitches next year

Good Game tonight offensively. Lugo got 4 hits and our batters walked 11 total times combined. Got Beckett going tomorrow. Hopefully we can get the sweep.

I think Dice-K might be getting placed on the DL soon because of an "injury" so they can evaluate Smoltz and probably see if they can afford to trade Penny. Which I think they should because even if Smoltz does bad we still got Buchholz tearing it up in Pawtucket.

good game tonight, Penny pitched well and it is making it harder for the Red Sox to even consider trading him now lol. Guess we may be going to a six man rotation for a little while. Which will be good for Dice-K cause then we can let him throw more pitches and see how he does. Also, the Red Sox are currently shopping Takashi Saito according to WEEI.

The only move I see them making right now is trading Saito who they already came close to trading him to texas and getting rid of Lugo somehow. With Green playing well and Lowrie coming back in a few weeks there is really no point in having 3 shortstops especially one who refuses to play anywhere else (lugo)

the only question is what do we do with Lugo once Lowrie comes back. Couple rumors I have heard is that they might just release Lugo once Lowrie comes back.

i don't think we release Lugo, too much money against the cap. I think we try to trade him, if not then maybe Designate him for assignment, let him clear waivers and if he doesn't accept his demotion then we're going to have to release him.

I doubt he would accept being demoted because his offensive numbers arent that bad, its just his range and fielding that's terrible. Even if we find someone to trade him to we will most likely have to pay his salary like we did with Renteria.
