Brett Favre's career from 2007 - present

Name me one other HOF player on the offensive side of the ball for the Packers during the Favre era. Being a serviceable RB is good for the regular season but it takes more than that to get yards on a playoff caliber defense. Elway and Marino are two other QB's that lacked a complimentary player on offense but at least Elway had Terrell Davis' help to win his 2 Superbowls and Davis would have been a lock for the HOF if injury hadn't ended his career prematurely.

I wasnt aware it required HOFers to spread the ball around or achieve a balanced attack , let alone play within the system. Interesting that Elway went to 3 superbowls with no complimentary players , Favre 2. I guess Elway IS the better QB.

Rings are a team achievement and by that logic, Terry Bradshaw is as good as Joe Montana. Favre has 3 MVP's if you want to compare individual achievements outside of records.

I still think Montana was the GOAT but Favre is legitimately part of the discussion and a strong case can be made on his behalf.

Ahman Green was good but I was referring to the lack of HoF players on offense that everyone else on the GOAT list had around them (Favre had none). Green fumbled way too much to be going to the HoF. For the record, I still have Montana as the GOAT but believe a strong case can be made for Favre, Elway and Marino.

Not for nothing, as someone who actually watched every Jet game.. that meltdown had one clear leader of it, and his name was Favre. His passing skills were atrocious by the end of the year to the point he was under-throwing 15 yard passes.


I won't lie, it's tough to lose a bit of a Jet fan bias about Favre after the promising hope we all had after watching the start of the year. It was exciting to watch the Jets again, and as much as he brought up the Jets, he only brought them down.


Against the Vikings on Monday, Favre looked incredible. He's been doing great all season thus far, and has had one hell of a career. People do pick on his INT totals, but Favre has balls (no homo), and its part of why he's gotten so many yards and TDs throughout his career.

If he keep it up this season, the Vikings become deep playoff contenders. Time will tell.

Favre had Sterling up to 1995.
Then he had Antonio Freeman till 2000.
Donald Driver till he left the packers.

Put on top of those 3 lights out receivers, the awesome offensive line the Packers had all the way up to last year. Not to mention a real good running game, his whole career in Greenbay.

haha, argument is not over. Regular season stats only carry so much wait in GOAT. Clutch games (playoffs) are very important.

If I'm looking for regular season success over a long period of time, I'm looking for B. Favre. If I'm looking for a run through the playoffs, then B. Favre is not anywhere near the top of my list.

Come on Mr. BIll. The playoff failures have been documented many times. We don't need to list them again. His playoff performances have been sub par. He's not GOAT.

Before the merger, you just had NFL championship game at the end of the regular season. No multiple rounds with wildcards, etc.

Bart Starr is an all time great, I don't think anybody denies that. That said, he did play in an era where the forward pass was still used as a supplement to the run and not as a primary means to move the football which resulted in huge change in the way defense was played (big meat eating run stopper DB's vs. faster smaller guys in the modern era). Starr's passing attempts for the prime of his career were around 250 per year and Favre's are more like 550. Not completely apples to apples considering Starr's 14 game season and Favre's 16 game seasons but we are talking a factor of 2X.

Again, the 6 INT game against St. Louis skews the heck out of that playoff INT per game percentage. Without it, Favre is smack in the middle of Montana and Elway. There is no way the Packers were going to beat the "Greatest Show on Turf" on the road the year they went on to win the Superbowl. Slinging it was the only chance the Packers had since St. Louis was going to score 35+ a game on any defense in the league at that time. For purposes of these all time comparisons, I suppose Favre should have just went Dilfer and thrown screen passes and tossed it out of bounds instead of trying to keep up with the Rams on the scoreboard.

I will add something similar to what has been said in this thread already.

Brett Favre is/will be the ultimate gamer, he rivals Jordan when it come to gametime. He keeps punching away and is almost always successful. I don't think he is ahead of Unitas as a QB. Favre has never been the most accurate QB in the league. Montana definitely beats him for second. Then Favre comes in as a close third.

1) Unitas - Put up numbers that took years to break with players that had less than half the skills of players today.

2) Montana - Arguably the most accurate QB and the most successful (championships)
3) Favre - Longevity, skills, and Guts & Glory.
