Brian Urlacher retires: HOF?

I think all had periods where they were elite in the 90's. Junior was probably the only overarching elite player of the entire 90's...but the rest all had periods where they were of the best at the position. Some longer than others. Nickerson and Tuggle (two non-Hall of Famers) were probably the best of the rest that spanned the entire 90's. Meanwhile, you had players like Lewis and Mills as guys who were straddling decades but both had periods of elite play in the 90's. Hell, you even had Singletary at the very early portion of the 90's playing at a very high level along with guys like Mecklenberg who were more 80's players. Then you had short periods of elite play like Spielman, Kirkland, Norton Jr.

No doubt, but I was just more referring to guys like Seau who was firmly planted in the 90's and elite for a long period there.

Depends on who else is waiting ahead of said player. There have been times I thought someone was a HOFer but given a vote I wouldn't have voted for them just because I thought guys more deserving were still waiting. Hell, Dave Robinson just got in. I would have voted for him back in the 70's. Some think Robinson was GB's best defensive player on those teams. This may be a MINOR point cause I agree with your "if he's a HOFer he's a HOFer". Only so many can get voted in each year.

And definitely YES to Urlacher.

The bolded is my biggest contention with the Pro Football HoF. Why do we have to have a min/max on how many go in each year. This is probably the biggest reason why deserving players have to wait years and, even worse, guys who have no business in the HoF get elected.

Not sure I understand your point. Without a min or max then years where there are less than 4 worthy candidates then there (theoretically) would be less than 4 inductions even if that number were 0. Don't think there would be an explosion in the HoF population.

My point is with the min at 4 then there are a number of years when too many players get in while with a max of 7, there may be years when not enough get in. In other words I'm saying it should even out, not that there should be more or less.

Thinking more on this, Brian Urlacher was the prototypical middle linebacker in the defining defensive scheme of the era. So many teams tried to emulate the Tampa 2 and just couldn't because few other LBs had the range to cover the deep seam.

If the Tampa 2 was the signature defense of his era, and he was the signature player in said defense, well yeah he's gotta be in.

I'm good with Urlacher as a first ballot HOFer. The people who say he isn't are just a bit too focused on the last two or three years, IMO.
In his prime, which was 8 or 9 great years of football, the man was a game changer.

BTW Am I wrong , but Seau only played a season at MLB pretty when SD was flopping between 34/43 pretty sure he was at OLB most of it.
