Heat Decline To Match Offer On Moon

The Miami Heat have announced that they have declined to match the offer sheet restricted free agent forward Jamario Moon signed with Cleveland, making him a member of the Cavaliers.

“After contemplating Cleveland’s offer to Jamario Moon for the past week, we have decided not to match,” said Heat President Pat Riley. “We declined to match because we want to stay true to our plan of not adding salary to our 2010 cap and matching it would have reduced our flexibility. Michael Beasley will be getting significant minutes at both forward positions and this opens up more opportunities for him to become the player we all expect him to be. We would like to thank Jamario for his contributions to our organization and helping us get back to the playoffs last season. We wish him the best in the future.”

Moon was acquired by the Heat from the Toronto Raptors along with Jermaine O’Neal in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks on Feb. 13, 2009. He appeared in 80 games (60 starts) last year for the Heat and Raptors and averaged 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.08 steals and 25.9 minutes while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the foul line. Additionally, he led the NBA in steals-to-turnover ratio (2.00). He appeared in 26 games (21 starts) after being acquired by Miami and averaged 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 26.5 minutes while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 86.7 percent from the foul line​

O'Neal working with Wade's Trainer from Last Summer

Chicago-based trainer Tim Glover, who worked with Dwyane Wade last summer, will work out with Heat center Jermaine O'Neal for a month.

The sessions were scheduled to begin this week.

O'Neal is trying to bounce back from knee problems that have bothered him in recent seasons and build lower body strength.​

2nd-round pick Robert Dozier signs to play in Greece

The Miami Heat's 2009 draft class is down to a single prospect.

Robert Dozier, the 6-foot-9 forward out of Memphis selected with the final pick of the NBA Draft, has agreed to terms with a team in Greece.

Dozier, who had been working the past month at AmericanAirlines Arena after being taken with the No. 60 selection in June's second round, has signed a one-year deal with Colossus Rhodes, a team in Greece's first division.

Colossus Rhodes also lists former 76ers forward Steven Smith and former Kansas State forward Lance Harris on its roster. The team plays in a 1,300-seat home arena.

Heat President Pat Riley last week said his team was poised to deal with the status of its two second-round picks. Also acquired in the second round was former Arkansas guard Pat Beverley, in a draft-night trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat did not have a first-round selection.

"Both of them have had great summers," Riley said.

Dozier had spent time at both small forward and power forward during the Heat's summer camp last month, at times outplaying Heat veteran Dorell Wright.

"He has the skill set to be in this league," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

By rule, the Heat will retain Dozier's rights, which could be of benefit next season, when the Heat figures to spend most of its salary cap space to re-sign Dwyane Wade and add an A-list free agent, therefore likely to be left with only minimal remaining cap. The Heat also can use Dozier's rights in a trade.

Wolves Send Richardson To Heat

For the fourth time this summer, Quentin Richardson(notes) has been traded. This time, his new team, the Miami Heat, plans to keep him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Richardson to the Heat for forward Mark Blount, two league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night.

This time, Richardson has found a home for his expiring $9.35 million contract. Heat president Pat Riley wants him to bring scoring punch off the bench, and the team plans to give him significant minutes this season.

Richardson started the summer with the New York Knicks before getting moved to Memphis, the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota and now Miami.

Richardson, 29, averaged 10 points for New York.

You better pray the Heat turn into the Heat that happened in my chise. In this offseason they signed Finley. Next seaosn they won 60 games, good enough for 2nd place. Then in the offseason they had over 40 mil in cap room. Signed Luke Ridnour, signed Mike Miller, signed LeBron, and re-signed Wade. Now they are looking at this rotation:

Beverley Signs With Olympiakos

Patrick Beverley, who was in June by the Heat at the cost of a $1.5 million payment and a future second-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers, has signed to spend the 2009-10 season in Greece.

Beverley, taken with the No. 41 pick and then dealt to the Heat on draft night, will play for European powerhouse Olympiakos, the Greek League team announced.

Beasley Checks Into Rehab

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley has checked into an unidentified Houston rehabilitation hospital, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Sources said the Heat encouraged Beasley to check into the facility to address possible substance and psychological issues. He is expected to spend time with former NBA player and coach John Lucas, who is renowned for his success in working with troubled players. As part of the NBA’s treatment program, Beasley is expected to stay in the facility for a minimum of 30 days with little outside contact, one source close to him said.

When reached Monday morning, Miami Heat spokesman Tim Donovan declined comment. An NBA spokesman also declined comment.

Beasley’s admission to the center comes as a handful of disturbing Twitter posts were recently attributed to him.

“Y do I feel like the whole world is against me…I can’t win for losin,” Beasley wrote.

“Feelin like it’s not worth livin!!!!!!! I’m done.”

Beasley’s frustration had been born out of a posed Internet photo on his personal Twitter page. In the photo, Beasley showed off a SuperCoolBeas tattoo on his back while two plastic baggies could be seen on the floor in the background. Some people have speculated on the bags’ contents, even though the clarity of the photo makes it difficult to determine. After the photo became a fast-moving Internet story, Beasley posted the messages on his Twitter account before the page was shut down on Saturday night.

Even before the Heat made him the No. 2 pick after Derrick Rose in the 2008 draft, Beasley has been a target of criticism inside and outside the organization for his immaturity. From team president Pat Riley to superstar Dwyane Wade, the Heat have been frustrated with Beasley’s clownish attitude and personal decisions.

The NBA fined Beasley $50,000 for being in a room where marijuana was found at the NBA’s rookie symposium last summer. Beasley had slipped out the door when security officials arrived on the scene, leaving Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur to face punishment alone. Riley later found out Beasley had been in the room and forced him to confess to league officials. So far this summer, Miami had been unwilling to include Beasley in trade talks with the Utah Jazz for Carlos Boozer.

Beasley had a solid rookie season for Miami, averaging 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.
