Choo to Cincinnati, Gregorius to Arizona, Bauer to Cleveland

Like everyone else, why the hell is Arizona so damn set on trading Bauer? Wasn't he the second best pitching prospect behind Dylan Bundy by some to start the season? One season is way too soon to give up on him.

Indians actually got a good deal, getting a younger Stubbs who they hope can turn around some, as well as Bauer. Reds did get a great deal as well. Diamondbacks now have to trade Upton for next to nothing and the worst off-season shall be complete.

Arizona was frustrated by how stubborn Bauer's pitching philosophy is. He refuses to adapt, and insists on throwing up in the zone and being a primarily fly ball pitcher. That said, this makes no fucking sense. Even with their intent to trade Bauer being one of the league's worst kept secrets, you would think they could have yielded a better return for him in a standalone deal. Jumping in as a third team to facilitate this trade is pretty questionable lMO, and they could have gotten a better return for Bauer with more patience.

The thing is, the Towers mancrush on Gregorius is not only baffling, but also legitimate. He's not just talking the guy up with GM speak after the fact. From what the Cincy beat guys are saying, Gregorius has been the center of every conversation between Cincy & Arizona this offseason.

Gregorius has always been considered a decent prospect, but either D'Backs scouts see something nobody else does, or Towers himself is just enamored with him for whatever reason, but the whole situation is weird.

Cleveland picked up a bunch of useful pieces, including two with big upside, for a guy they had no prayer of signing. Good on them.

The dumbest shit about it is how obvious as hell it all was while he was at UCLA. Spend one fucking hour at a bullpen session when he's there with his dad and you know exactly what he's going to be like. Why the hell do you draft a player like that if you want to change him? I remember in the draft the whole report on him was that you have to be willing to accept how unorthodox he is and have the attitude to embrace that or you're wasting your time.

Drew is a boras client so the DBacks didn't want to deal with that, he's still a FA and will most likely get a 1 year deal from the A's who typically don't deal with Boras clients either. There was also that incident where the owner called him out on his injury so they wanted to cut ties with him ASAP. I just don't see how they don't try and find a cheaper young defensive SS or someone who can just be a stop gap until they make a move for someone else, instead of getting involved in a 3 team deal where they get completely raped. If Cabrera comes back to the DBacks in this trade then I'd understand.

Arizona clearly wanted a shortstop, in the deal you proposed they would have also acquired Andrus from Texas, so why would they need Espinosa? They don't need a 2B either, having Aaron Hill. That is why that deal made no sense to me.

Actually, I never proposed it. I originally offered Espinosa for Bauer, straight up. Then you brought up the idea that the Rangers would have to be involved. But I never proposed Andrus. Honestly, if the Rangers were willing to deal Andrus or Profar, they'd probably already have Upton.

Espinosa played shortstop all through the minors. 259 games at shortstop, 7 at second base. He also played shortstop for 300+ innings last year when Desmond was out. Posted a 4 DRS. While it's a limited sample size, he can definitely play shortstop. Is he Simmons or Brendan Ryan? No. But he'd be good.

I stand by my original post. Diamondbacks gave up on Bauer way too soon. He was worth far more than Didi Gregorius. Still doesn't solve their shortstop issues in 2013. Unless they don't care if their shortstop has an OPS under .700

I agree as just about all of us here think the DBacks let a 21 year old with ace stuff go way too soon for a glove only young SS. I think the Rangers hang onto Profar and Andrus for now, Kinsler is most likely going to the OF this year. He's even come out to the public and stated he's cool with moving out there, so they've most likely talked to him about it already. They'll slot Profar in at 2nd and he's most likely going to be a good hitter from the little we've seen so far. It's easier for them to find or develop an outfielder than it is for someone at 2nd/SS, and they can keep those 2 there for a long time if they choose to.

He was never higher that the Reds #6 prospect at any point, and thats after the Latos trade that wiped out three guys who were always ahead of him, and Cozart, Mesoraco, & Frazier getting called up for good. He wasnt top ten in the org 12 months ago.

Sorry for all the confusion. The trade I was referring to was a suggestion from Keith Law that the only way the Rangers would part ways with Andrus would be if the D'Backs were to combine Upton and Bauer in the same package. That was, to him, the D'Backs only chance at landing a stud SS. Obviously at that time none of us expected Arizona was willing to part ways with Bauer for merely Gregorious. Definite head-scratcher of a move.

Other than chuckling at the goofy name and being vaguely aware he was a member of the Reds system, did not know a whole lot. The Jeter comparison is fucking hilarious from Towers. It sounds like his best-case scenario ceiling is a poor man's version of Alcides Escobar or Andrelton Simmons.

That equals an everyday shortstop, which is not worthless, but it's worth a heck of a lot less than Trevor Bauer.
