NEW YORK – Never is there a wise time to test the tolerance of the planet’s best point guard, but Rajon Rondo(notes) has that irritating ability to push people’s patience to the brink. The sluggish state of the New
Orleans Hornets had Chris Paul(notes) seething on Sunday night, his mood even edgier with a report that Rondo
had privately disparaged Paul’s talents within the Boston Celtics’ locker room.
Beyond the charming smile and gentlemanly disposition, Paul has a tenacious will and a terrific temper. Beyond it all, he’s downright ferocious.

So, here was Rondo surrounded with an embarrassment of point guard riches – K.G., Paul Pierce(notes) and Ray Allen
(notes), a championship
banner and a fat, new $55 million contract. Rondo felt emboldened, eager to engage Paul. The procession of trash talk, sources said, pushed into the personal when Rondo was heard to tell Paul, “I’ve got a ring, and you’re never gonna win one.”

As they traded technical fouls at the Boston Garden, as emotions escalated, sources said Rondo declared that Paul wished he could be him, suggesting that his frustration dripped with envy. On the way to the locker room, Hornets coach Byron Scott heard Paul insist that Rondo “is gonna respect me as a man,” and soon Paul started on his way down the corridor to tell the Celtics point guard himself.

Several coaches prevented Paul from getting close to Rondo outside the Celtics’ locker room, but the overriding theme of Paul’s rage was easily understood: Before you talk trash again, feel free to walk a mile in my Brand Jordan’s.


“If Rondo had to trade in K.G., Pierce, Ray and Rasheed for the guys that Chris plays with [in New Orleans], I guarantee that you wouldn’t be seeing Rondo get a $55 million contract,” one Hornets source said.


Twenty-four hours later on Monday night, Paul played brilliantly – 32 points and 13 assists – and still the Hornets lost again. This time, it was to the pitiful New York Knicks, 117-111 at Madison Square Garden. When someone suggested the Hornets could lose contact with contenders like the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference, that the Hornets didn’t want to be a seventh or eighth seed, Paul responded in a most truthful way. “Man,” he said, “we want to get to the playoffs.”

I love CP3 and I love the fact that he is on the team I root for. It is kind of sad. Luckily Byron Scott's contract is expiring. A new coach will hopefully be able to do wonders for the organization

Hard to defend CP3 though, anyone who punches another dude in the balls is not worth defending. Both are great players who I love to watch, but a little on the "bitch" side of things at the moment.

And as I said in the other thread on this matter, I believe Derrick Rose will surpass both of them soon enough.

Still holding on to that. He knew he fucked up. You obviously don't know the situation in that matter. I woulda rocked that boy right there on the court if I was him. But I'm no NBA caliber player.

? I don't know the whole story at all, or even part of it. I do know that punching someone in the balls is never ok. You can punch me in my face, you can even take a bat to my car, just don't hit me in my fucking balls. It's a bitch move and a cowardly move and CP3 will never have my full respect.

He gets 99 %, but there's that image of him sucker punching a guy in the junk (who is wearing paper thin bball shorts no less) that ruins it for me.

That said, if you switch he and Rondo the Celts are better and the Hornets are much worse, so RR doesn't really have a leg to stand on in this one.

WOW, given what Paul has done in this league that is saying a lot. I like Rose, but I don't see him being what Paul is.

I always thought Rondo was a pretty quiet, mellow mannered dude, based on the interviews ive seen. I think its coming off more as being stuck up then quiet right now tho.

Its my understanding that Rondo isn't always the best "locker room" guy, which is why the Celts were entertaining trading him earlier. From what I've heard he's too himself, but comes across as being aloof at times. Either way he's a top PG, but he's no Chris Paul.

And if CP3 can't handle some trash talk without trying to get in a fight with someone that he probably won't win a title. Gary Payton would have been all up in his head if a guy like Rondo can get there. Doesn't reflect well on Paul's demeanor.

My bad, I was referring to the 07 Championship run. You were referring to the year they almost get bounced by the Bulls in the first round. Great leadership on Rondo's part there. Chicago should of never hung with Boston, and yet KG out they push 7 games.

Which just goes to prove the point there are still three, well now four pieces in Boston more important then Rajon Rondo. And it has nothing to do with the trash talk, it's all about the attitude on Rajon Rondo's part. I'm sure CP3 hears trash talk each and every game.

Rondo thinks he's bigger and better then what he is because he has a ring on his finger. Well guess what? So does Adam Morrison. :laughing:

Note: Before you go on an "Anti-Boston" post raid, I think Rajon has a boat load of talent and will be a top PG if he can develop a solid shot. We'll see just how much of a factor Rajon is when the Big 3 are gone.
