College vs Pro

NFL easily. Better players and more balanced playing field. College football is basically the same few handful of teams every year.

The same is true for the NFL, but NFL teams are good because of drafting well, good coaching or good front offices. College teams benefit a lot more from things like being able to outspend everyone or having tradition. I'd much rather be a fan of a hapless pro team than a hapless college one.

Yeah nothing more exciting then teams that cant even hit their free throws, or watching college teams struggle through trying to get into an offense and execute the most simple basketball plays. NCAA is exciting cause no team knows how to hold on to a damn lead.

A bit of a tie . I just love watching sports .

College has better crowds [normally], more passion, kids seem to try harder even though the results aren't quite the same. Nobody is taking plays off because they just got a pay day .

Pro has better players and a better brand overall probably but some things about it bugs me badly .

Overall I just take both for what they are and enjoy the hell out of them for different reasons

EDIT: I would like to add that the every game matters phrase is sorta bs . While it may hold true for some schools it's not the same for everybody . If every game mattered then Boise, TCU and Cincy would have had a shot at the NC. Becasue I didn't see Boise lose a game this year, are you going to tell me that their games mattered slightly less? If every game truly matters they wouldn't eliminate half the feild before the season even starts.

College for the simple reason that I don't consider myself a HUGE football fan. The level of play is nowhere near comparable, but I like the variety and am entertained a little more by the college game. It has nothing to do with passion, but I like seeing the different offenses, dramatically different personnel, etc. The NFL just seems like everyone is doing the same thing, rosters are pretty balanced. I dunno. I love watching some NFL games, but I definitely find myself more entertained by the college game.

However, I'm the exact opposite in terms of basketball. I won't/haven't watched a minute of college basketball in probably two years unless I'm watching a pro prospect and can watch the NBA all day. CBB is a joke.

I agree 100%. Being a Packers fan, I've seen then go from 4-12 to 8-8 to 13-3. With Indiana, I've seen them go from 2-10 to 3-9 to 3-9 to 3-9 to 7-5 (thank God) then back to 3 wins. It's the same god damn pattern every year. With the NFL, every year is new and you never know who will win.

My two football teams are LSU and the Falcons. That should tell you what you need to know.

Without the screwy method of deciding a champion, there'd be no debate IMO. CFB shits all over the NFL every month of the year until January, where it looks foolish again.

Really though, I think it's a North/South thing. If you're from New York or Philly your choices are Rutgers, Temple, or jump on the Penn State bandwagon. No wonder they prefer the pro game.

Down South though, football is a religion and you cheer for your state school.

Yeah with the Colts I know they have a chance to stay good as long as they draft well and make good coaching and front office moves.

With Purdue I already know there's no way they're ever winning anything. They're way too far behind and don't have the $$$, recruiting budgets, tradition or facilities to attract the players necessary to compete. My only joy is watching them upset a team or murder IU every year.

I can understand people that dont have good college programs to cheer for not liking college football because it is a lot harder for a shitty program (examples for this thread : Washington State, Indiana, and for Kuzzy the CFL) to become relevant on a national level unlike pro sports, where there is a lot more parody.

So until College football gets a playoff so these terrible schools can get there names out there and maybe shock people like in Cbball, fans of shitty programs probably will never understand why people like college more.

oh and plus I love the Dallas Cowboys more than any other team I am a fan of. The NFL has as much tradition as college football too. Plus its always fun to follow my favorite college players when they turn pro.

And the atmosphere isn't even comparable... CFB shits all over the NFL in that regard.

I agree with people saying that it depends on what kind of teams you grew up with. When I was growing up in Ohio, the Buckeyes were competing for national titles (And failing thanks to John Cooper's struggles with Michigan), while the Bengals were fucking terrible and the Browns didn't exist.

If I miss a Notre Dame game...wait...what? I never do. If I'm not near a TV during an ND game I start to get all jittery.

If I miss a Bears game I'm just kinda "meh" I'll watch the replay.

Here's another reason why I think college > pro, paraphrasing a point originally made by Chuck Klosterman:

"When you are watching some random Thursday night college game, and the starting QB gets hurt, you know that the backup is now in the biggest moment of his life. Right there, you are watching someone who is at the peak of their life. For the 99% of college athletes who won't make it to the pros, every opportunity they get is something they're gonna remember 50 years from now. Every opportunity they get is the biggest opportunity of their life."

There's just something cooler about watching unknown kids get a chance to prove themselves than watching established commodities who know they are great. The walk-on kickers, the 170 lb. special teams aces, the wide-eyed backup QB who is just trying not to yak all over himself and hopes only to make his pappy proud, those are the reasons that college football is more fun to watch and support year in and year out.

Also, those who are saying NFL > CFB have probably never been to a good college game. Seeing a college game live and seeing an NFL game live is not even a comparison. NFL games are so boring to attend, but college football in person is probably as good as it gets in terms of spectator sports.

Well obviously nobody wanted to see that in the National Championship game. But when you're just watching a game in the regular season with nothing to do, it's cool to see unknown kids get a chance.

college football for the variety (spread, prostyle, triple offense) and the atmosphere. Every game matters and the crowd is into the game more.

There is no major sport where fewer games matter.

-Every non BCS league team plays an entire schedule of completely meaningles games.

-Even some BCS teams play an entire schedule of completely meaningless games (Cincy says hello).

-Even for the OSU's and Texas's and LSU's and Bama's, "every game counts" -- until you lose one or two. Then, exhibition time.

-The supposed "great" regular season is nothing more than diminishing returns. Once more & more teams get knocked off, less & less of the games actually matter. By the final weeks, you are lucky to get 3 or 4 truly meaningful games.

-It's also the only sport that plays an entire postseason of meaningless exhibitions, save one game.

The fewer teams you allow to compete for a title, the less meaningful games you end up with. By simply adding a 4 team playoff (nevermind a more ideal 6 or 8 team field), college football would increase the number of truly meaningful games, and improve the sport drastically--both the regular season and the brutal postseason.
