In 1-on-1 battles I can easily use block (L2). It's when there are a half-dozen enemies that blocking doesn't work out so well. I use evade (R3) a lot and jump a lot - lol. The puzzles haven't been too hard...yet. I like that they have them though because I would prefer something other than the hack and slash. I'm new to any genre of game besides sports games. I just played UC 2 over Christmas and really liked it. I am enjoying this game as well, just not as much as UC 2. I think I will really enjoy MGS 4. That game looks deep and appears to require quite a bit of strategy.
If you really want to get creative, start looking everywhere for relics in the game as well as either absolving/punishing every enemy you can get your hands on.
For one, when you do either, you're invincible for a few seconds (a plus) and some of the enemies tend to back up a bit so you can dash away to an open area afterward.
In addition, once the game gives you a "Redemption Meter" you fill it up with souls you collect from enemies (by killing them, Absolving them or Punishing them) and can use it to go ape-shit on those around you. :rockwoot:
Relics to be out on the lookout for (if you go Holy like I did):
Eyes of St. Lucia [
deflects 20% of most enemy attacks and knocks dudes back to boot when you level it up all the way]
Saladin's Mercy [You have to get to Holy Level 4 but that's simple enough if you keep absolving everyone around you;
ALSO, you get up to 15% health for everyone you absolve...
I cannot stress how gamebreaking this is, in a good way]
Ciacco's Bile [You have to get to Holy Level 5 but again, it's easy to do if you absolve everyone;
Basically, this relic gives you constant mana regeneration and the more you level it up, the faster you get Mana back.]
Eye of Alighiero [You have to get to Holy Level 3 but if you've beaten Greed, you might as well be there by now if you've been absolving everyone;
Essentially, you shrug off some damage from attacks.]
Everything else I've gotten so far is attack-based (like
Coin of Plutus [
gives you more time to connect combo chains together; useful if you end up on the far end of a map and you're working towards getting achievement/trophies for combo lengths]).
