[ALL] Deus Ex and Eidos Websites Hacked

Hackers have broken into Square Enix's official Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Eidos websites and stolen the personal data of "at least" 80,000 registered users, a new report claims.

9000 resumes were also taken, according to KrebsOnSecurity, a security news and investigation website.

Apparently the hackers plan to release the data on file-sharing networks.

According to logs lifted from the chatroom used by those responsible, the hackers are discussing whether to leak the "src" – likely the source code of the websites in question, although some have speculated it could relate to the source code of Deus Ex: Human Revolution itself.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, appears to have been conducted by a splinter cell of hacker group Anonymous, which has been blamed by Sony for last month's devastating PlayStation Network compromise. Anonymous has denied responsibility.

Anonymous has in recent days suffered from in-fighting. The internet relay chat (IRC) channels used by the hacker group were recently rendered unusable by disgruntled members of the organisation.

Eurogamer has contacted Square Enix for comment.

Oh wow, what could it mean for Human Revolution if they have the source code and release it?

Now that another group has been targeted, how long do you guys think it will take for Interpol to get involved, if they aren't working on it already?

Just to update:

-SquareEnix has said that the source code for Deus Ex is safe and was not taken.

-The actual numbers for the data stolen was only of a fraction of what was initially reported.

Square Enix can confirm a group of hackers gained access to parts of our Eidosmontreal.com website as well as two of our product sites. We immediately took the sites offline to assess how this had happened and what had been accessed, then took further measures to increase the security of these and all of our websites, before allowing the sites to go live again.

Eidosmontreal.com does not hold any credit card information or code data, however there are resumes which are submitted to the website by people interested in jobs at the studio. Regrettably up to 350 of these resumes may have been accessed, and we are in the process of writing to each of the individuals who may have been affected to offer our sincere apologies for this situation. In addition, we have also discovered that up to 25,000 email addresses were obtained as a result of this breach. These email addresses are not linked to any additional personal information. They were site registration email addresses provided to us for users to receive product information updates.

No dissemination or misappropriation of any other personal information has been identified at this point.

We take the security of our websites extremely seriously and employ strict measures, which we test regularly, to guard against this sort of incident.
