Im convinced this is not the case.

Did you people see the games this guy was dropping after the All-Star break? This guy has 25-10 abilities on any given night. Im not saying he'll top out there, but as I said.. 18-7-1.5 this season.. and I only expect those numbers to get better.

Wasn't he starting in the playoffs? I could have swore I've seen him starting games for Denver. -shrugs- Perhaps I'm wrong on that. But, the guy got close to zero play with Dwight as they starter. However, in his opportunities to start or get major minutes, he's always been consistent in his effort. Gortat is a walking double-double when he gets the minutes, and not cheap 10/10, but he can be a 16/12 guy. Very athletic guy.

And a Gortat/Bargnani comparison isn't even fair. You can't say Bargnani is better than a guy who hasn't gotten the playing time he has when he's the back up to arguably the best center in the league. Also, Bargnani and Gortat are two different players. Gortat is a center, Bargnani is a forward/center. Gortat is definitely a better rebounder and defender than Bargnani, but Bargnani has a better offensive game because he can extend out to the perimeter and shoot the three. They have two different games.

There is no way Dampier is starting over Gortat. The Mavs don't want his inconsistency anymore. Gortat is their guy. Gortat and Dampier almost have comparable stats and Gortat hasn't even put in the minutes Dampier has.

gortat might become a solid Eole player.....but he's not the guy to get the Mavs over the hump and hes not worth 30 million + over 5 yrs

We were losing games bcus of Andrea? Gotcha.

For the record, Andrea's defense improved leaps last year. His active hands and long wing span are a problem for post players. Im not saying hes a good defender by any means, but he worked hard to improve his defense last year. I think when he reaches his peak will be a serviceable defender.

What is all this based on? Garbage minutes off the bench against other back-ups? Im not saying Gortat is going to be a bust, but to assume he can avg 16 and 12 based on nothing is pretty ridiculous dude. I can see how some high energy minutes off the bench for this guy in the playoffs has given everyone a boner over him.

And no, Birdman is not a starter. He may start on occasion when K-Mart or NeNe are hurt.. bur even when K-Mart was out for a stretch in the regular season, Renaldo Balkman was starting. Chris is Denver's energy off the bench.

O and Gortat is a role player too and ebcause they arent many true centers, he gets overpaid. Simple as that he'll never average 10 points a game, so dont think he'll score 16 a game thats just dumb. He reminds me of Jerome James who had a good playoff and got paid by the Knicks and played like 30 games over 5 years for them.

O and I doubt Dumars would trade Rip for Eric Dampier, regardless of his contract. Dampier is a standing rape victim on the court.

I dont even believe that Dave watches the Raptors more than a dozen times a season (weekend games) bcus the dude works in the evening anyways... and when he comes home he gets drunk and plays poker . Maybe Dave's a casual fan but I would not warrant anything he says on the subject of basketball.

If the dude took a nice leap like he did last year, what makes you believe he isnt able to average 18-7-1.5 and even improve on that? Especially in a weak center class, those numbers can get you to the All-Star game, and im saying he can do better than that in the future. Noone watches this kid play on the regular that isnt in Toronto, his skill-set and size are valuable assets in the NBA. He can hit the 3, he can take his man off the dribble and get to the hole, and hes got great hands for a big man, he can pass the ball, and he is going to get you his block or so a game too to help out on D. Hes capable of bringing down 7-8 boards a night when he commits to the glass, which he was doing consistent in the 2nd half. If Bargs can get a little more mean-streak.. and go for the dunk a little more instead of the finess lay-ups, it'll make him even more dangerous (when he does it hes nearly impossible for other centers to guard off the dribble, they dont get saved by weak lay-ups they can swat at the rim). Being an All-Star doesnt necessarily mean you're a superstar, but Bargs has a very high ceiling, not many guys in the NBA have his combination of size and skills.

I wasnt really arguing him being worth the money, but yeah, the Raptors overpaid. Colangelo sees the writing on the wall there.. Bargs is progressing.. it was better that we gave him an extension before he developed even further and wanted even more money in the over-saturated market..

The problem is the cap figures are gonna plummet over the next two years.
There will not be a huge free agent rush over those years, thanks to the economy.
Unless Bargnani improves considerably (which is obviously possible), no team would have paid him $10M per over the next two years.
The NBA landscape is going to change considerably over the next two or three years.
Yes, the superelite guys will get their money ... but the mid-level guys are gonna drop like flies.

Bargnani's deal is not effecting the bench at this time as his contract doesnt kick in till the 10-11 season bro. So obviously, in relation.. Bargs will NOT be making 10 mill for the next 2 years. The fear was probably for him to continue to progress the way he is and for him to demand even more.. which if he continues to progress he probably legitimately good could, when you factor in his age. Still.. a hefty price to pay him but I think when we look at the contract in 3 years, we'll be glad we inked an extension for the price we did at the time we did.
