they basically "mass effected" this game and it works great.

much bigger battles (in scale), great pace, pretty explosions, huge graphical upgrade....

can not wait for this.

the wide open city level at the end seemed cool for exploring. would be nice for them to steal sets from their previous D&D titles, lots of unique fun places in those games.

they really did mass effect this game. but its alot better. i say that because the combat is incredible for all classes.

i love that they added the hack and slash type combat. i alwasy felt that anything other than a mage was unplayable because it was basically select a power and allow the game to execute it. But now when u select a power it feels like your controlling the player and it all flows wonderfully as you hit the A button to hack and slash. PLUS, as a mage, i was able to get in there and hack away at bad guys. you could not do that in origins.

the karma system is just like ME too which is great.

but the most impressive thing to me is the way the spells look. i am blown away at how amazing they look. cant wait to play this now

I share this feeling with you. Felt like all I was doing was pressing A. Everything else is just like ME, but not as good IMO.

u guys are crazy. how is it not as good? sure it has a ME feel, but they did it better and they also didnt remove any of the rpg stuff like they did with ME1 and ME2. DA2 still has all the same rpg elements it had before they just cleaned up and made a new interface for it.

the changed the conversation system to a wheel instead of the 5 up/down options. but added some icons to the interface. The karma system is similar. Other than those obvious design change they didnt copy any other features. thats the only reason i felt like it had a ME2 feel to it.

one thing i am disappointed with is it didnt look like they really added any new spells or powers. i know they dramatically improved the look of all the powers and spells, and that will make them all feel new...but they are still the same things as before. Plus i didnt see inferno or blizzard which were 2 of my favorites

i saw a post where a guy said u could move each party member to a specific spot to setup strategic fighting. Anyone see how to do this? when i tried to move to a spot the entire party would move.

I am too disappointed there isn't new spells, but the spells have been changed enough to make me happy. I like how it showed you as "all powerful" and "starter" so you could see the differences in how effective your spells would be.

The conversation wheel is pretty good, best one Bioware has done yet. In ME/ME2 it was a bit of a guessing game as to what kind of response you'd give, but I liked how they had the symbols to let you know if it would be a "smartass", "tough guy", "ask question", etc, type response.

I think there was an option to move your party around in the wheel although I didn't explore it myself.



This game would have been fuckin ruthless if it was co-op.

Here's concept art on some of your party characters in the game. A wee bit dated because they changed Bethany's hair in the demo.

Strong lack of dwarves here? Varric seems like a half-dwarf or some shit.

Really, REALLY enjoying this so far. The only real complaint that I had about DA after a while is that it was hard to go back to turn based after what ME2 did to RPG combat, and this basically fixed that.

I have absolutely no frame of reference from DA:O going into this demo. This was my very first time playing a Dragon Age game. Just a little FYI.

The very first thing it asked me to do was choose a type of character(much like ME) and I chose Rogue based on it's brief summary/description. The dialogue wheel, and action/ability wheel were much like ME, as well. Hitting the pause button, the menu/interface is identical to ME. It felt a ton like ME(in a non-gameplay way). And that's not bad. I didn't mean for it to sound like that. It's Bioware, so I half expected it to feel the same.

Now, I never remember picking a dialogue option in ME2 and not knowing whether it was a Paragon or Renegade response. They always pointed out when the [Lie] tag. Red text or Blue text was about as clear as it got. Action icons popped up for unique renegade responses. LT for Paragon, RT for Renegade. I never said something not knowing what was going to happen.

Something I didn't mention in my previous post was my dis-taste for controlling multiple characters. I'm not sure if you can play the entire game without controlling those characters at all, or if it's un-wise to, but I hated it. And then my second thought was, "Why doesn't this type of game have co-op?"

There was paragon/renegade and lying responses in ME, but those maybe made up for 5-10% of all your conversation options in the game. When you dove into conversation with every character and would be presented with 3 general options, sometimes what you'd pick and what Shepard would say may not match up with what you'd expect.

In DA2 they make it much more clear as to what you can expect Hawke to say and since I like to talk to everyone...so


Probably doesn't have co-op because I doubt the game could be made as is in a co-op world. Take Two Worlds 2 for example, entirely different campaign, much smaller levels, no free roaming, etc. I don't know the tech side behind this, but I would wager DA2 as is wouldn't work by slapping co-op onto it. Still would be nice.

Since it's rumoured to have co-op in ME3, I think this franchise could have it down the road too.

You can play through a DA game without using the other characters, just have to be sure you set their tactics are properly set and updated as you play through. Tactics are settings that basically say "When under 50% health, drink a potion" or "When the Mage is being attacked, go defend him".
