I'm not one to besmirch Diablo (I've played the first one on PC, and have owned TWO knockoffs in Dark Stone AND Dungeon Hunter [I may go back to that]) so there's that.

I will say that DA's gonna demand some of your time though.

EA almost killed the series for me w/ DA II, ass.

Repetitive dungeons, a horrible 3rd act and awful writing at certain points didn't help matters.

3) Dragon Age 2 is a fine game for about 90% of it. The ending falls apart and them being forced to rush it out = repurprosed areas are the only real glaring problems with it.

DA 2 sucked compared to DA1. you are the only person who thinks otherwise. How can you get excited about a game that sucked over a screen shot? EA is a master of marketing so any pre release info should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm not excited over a screenshot, I'm excited over everything that I read. It sounds like the extra time that they have is allowing them to fix what was wrong with DA2.

Obviously I prefer DA1 more, I have never said otherwise. Where did you get that? I just think that DA2 is a fine game that gets overhated. It does a lot of things really well, some even better than DA1, but people seem to just want to shit all over it for it's problems. It's not perfect, but it's not the worst thing ever either.

Isn't this another instance where you put like 2 or 3 hours in the game and then decreed that it was shit, anyway?

no i played about 20 hours of DA2. the game, had it been released without being a follow up would have been fine. But the fact that EA raped the game is why it gets hated. EA being a master of marketing is moot to me. I'd rather be excited for something than just assume it's going to be terrible. But, I'm also talking to the guy that will legit hate a game without playing it, so we'll obviously just have to agree to disagree. uppy:

This conversation has gotten a little lost here. I had originally said that there is a lot of good stuff coming out about it, not just a screenshot. I understand that you're just referring to the screenshot, but overall you seemed down on it and I was simply saying that I'm not. So we might as well end that discussion there.

As for DA2, I'll try to make this the last time I go off topic about this but: how is a game that would be fine outside of the series an F- in the series? I guess I just dont' get that. It's not as good as Origins, but it's a fine game on its own that does a lot of things right that I hope make it into DA3. At worst I'd call it a C game overall.

And how is it dumbed down? I see that every now and then, and I don't know where that concept comes from. It's the exact same combat as Origins (with actually more power combination strategy involved), has the exact same quest structure, and actually adds more depth to character growth in some really interesting ways. Believe me, I am on board with its faults (spamming enemies to increase combat difficulty, re-used environments, a cobbled together, borderline nonsensical finale), but I just don't see how those faults make it an F-.

its an F because of the huge step back it took from the first game. As a stand alone new IP, the game probably gets better praise. But when you start off a franchise with a killer game, then produce a bad game, when expectations were huge, you now have the disappointment of the 2nd game, plus the fact that it wasnt that good of a game. it was ok, but even as a stand alone it would be considered great.

As a stand alone, i would give it 7/10 - as 2nd game in the series, a 2/10 and thats because it killed a great franchise

as far as being dumbed down...cmon. to put it simply, they made it so a person like twigg could enjoy the game
