Olympic judoka-turned-fighter Satoshi Ishii will compete on home soil for the first time in nearly nine months this Saturday, Sept. 25, when he takes on fan favorite Ikuhisa Minowa in a last-minute match at "DREAM.16" in Nagoya, Japan. The promotion made the bout official at a press conference today, after the news had been leaked some hours before by sports site Sponichi.co.jp and confirmed on Minowa's blog.

The openweight affair now looks to be the biggest ratings draw on the star-starved card, as Japanese fans will get their first look at the 2008 Beijing gold-medalist since Ishii's unsuccessful MMA debut against Hidehiko Yoshida at "Dynamite!" last New Year's Eve. As officials from DREAM parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group have noted, ratings for the show's prime-time airing on the Tokyo Broadcasting System could be crucial to DREAM's survival.

The 23-year-old has spent the eight months since his loss to Yoshida traveling the globe and training with the likes of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and Phil Baroni. In June, he picked up his first professional MMA win at "Xplosion," a small event in New Zealand, where he armbarred Kiwi kickboxer Tafa "Thumper" Misipati in under three minutes. Despite signing with World Victory Road over 15 months ago, Ishii has yet to compete under the Sengoku Raiden Championships banner; this will be his second bout "on loan" to FEG. Details on the specifics of the talent exchange were not discussed, though FEG CEO Sadaharu Tanikawa mentioned the possibility of DREAM sending fighters to SRC in the future.

"Super Hulk" champion Minowa had originally been slated to face fellow PRIDE Fighting Championships veteran James "The Colossus" Thompson. According to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani on Twitter, Thompson and his team arrived in Japan yesterday and DREAM officials are seeking a replacement opponent for the English heavyweight.

I think it's too late of an addition to make a huge difference in the ratings. If they started off with this fight earlier and built it up, then it would have helped.

I think it depends on how he loses. If Minowaman just mauls him, then the panic button has to be pushed. It would make Sengoku's investment in him a big bust. Your supposed face of your organization can't have a 1-2 record with both losses being on the biggest cards of the year in your rival's promotion.

The whole Sengoku/Ishii deal has been terrible. Ishii has made it clear that he wants to fight in the UFC ASAP, it's been a year since he signed his huge contract and there is talk of him JUST now making his debut for them in October and Ishii has pretty much pissed off Japan by stating that he's going to defect to the US for the 2016 Olympics, killing his chances of being the guy to make Japanese MMA relevant and possibly becoming a bigger villain than Sexyama.

FEG REALLY should have saved a fight like this for NYE and have it gather steam properly instead of tacking it on less than a week before the event.

Don't have the slightest idea considering that the 143 limit would have been to Hansen's advantage. Maybe Tokoro stayed stubborn about the weight limit?
 
Tatsuya Mizuno vs. Gegard Mousasi
Mizuno showed heart against Melvin Manhoef, but he won't be fighting someone with such limited ground ability this time around. Mousasi should stop the potential underdog story of 2010 dead in it's tracks.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller vs. Kazushi Sakuraba
Love Sakuraba, but he looked off against Ralek Gracie and Mayhem is a much better fighter. Miller is bigger, stronger and just as difficult to submit. Should be a fun fight.

Shinya Aoki vs. Marcus Aurelio
People are calling for an upset here, but I'm not seeing it. Yeah the tools are there, but I think Aoki is better off his back than Aurelio is in top control.

Satoshi Ishii vs. Ikuhisa Minowa
Experience, experience, experience. Minowaman is an OG to the game and seeing that Ishii is a heavyweight the Minowaman Law is still in effect.

Takaya is going to knock Beebe's block off, setting up Takaya/Fernandes II for the DREAM belt at NYE Dynamite!! and it will be another epic match. I am absolutely biased in this match.

Michihiro Omigawa vs. Cole Escovedo
Omigawa has the best boxing at FW and Escovedo was getting touch regularly against Maeda before he set up that sweet kick KO. FOTN potential here.

Joachim Hansen vs. Hideo Tokoro
If this fight was at 145 or even 143, I would have favored Hansen easily. However, Hellboy has looked like absolute shit at 138. If he looks like shit again, he should just move back to LW. If he has figured out the weight cutting, Tokoro is fucked. Hansen should be favored because it's just an awful matchup for Tokoro, but I think he will get caught in a late sub.

Kazuyuki Miyata vs. "Lion" Takeshi Inoue
Miyata has elite wrestling and is huge for the division, but Lion Takeshi just knows how to win. A pick 'em fight.

See Miyata vs. Inoue. Ishida is a Top 10 FW ability-wise (can't tell me otherwise), but his chin is suspect and Wicky lacks the KO power to really put him away. I expect Ishida to ride him like a cheap whore.

Kawaguchi is a gamer, hits really hard and isn't damn near 300 pounds.

This card has been great so far. I'm loving the commentary from Trigg and Schiavello.

Yusuke Kawaguchi vs. James Thompson was an ugly, but fun fight. Both fighters gassed late into the first round. I thought Thompson was going to edge it out after such a strong second, but Kawaguchi's first was too strong.

"Wicky" Akiyo Nishiura vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida was an awesome fight. Back and forth with a razor thin decision. Wick lost, but he performed very strong. Training in the US with Hume did him a lot of good because Ishida could barely keep him down and when he was able to land strikes they were fierce.

Kazuyuki Miyata vs. "Lion" Takeshi Inoue was a solid fight. Miyata had Takeshi confused and was tagging him standing all night. AND THE GERMAN SUPLEXES!!!! MY GOODNESS!! Miyata was busting out the old Chris Benoit consecutive suplexes with perfect technique. Miyata is going to be a player at FW, he's getting stronger every time.

Joachim Hansen vs. Hideo Tokoro made me sad. Hansen kicks Tokoro in the balls twice and then subs him in front of his hometown. But I'm glad Hellboy finally got a win. Hansen seems to have figured out the weight cut.

Holy shit is Omigawa's wife hot. Made light work of Escovedo and took an arm home with him. Hope Escovedo's arm is OK.

Chase Beebe vs. Hiroyuki Takaya - "Takaya is going to knock Beebe's block off, setting up Takaya/Fernandes II for the DREAM belt at NYE Dynamite!! and it will be another epic match." Fucking called it. :yep:
 
Satoshi Ishii vs. Ikuhisa Minowa was boring as hell. I liked watching him use his Judo, but Ishii had ZERO offense and pretty much LNP'd the entire time. He needs to learn some offense quickly because his cardio isn't good enough to decision cats. I thought it was over when Minowaman had a leg lock, but Ishii defended it well.

Shinya Aoki vs. Marcus Aurelio wasn't the most exciting, but relatively dominant fight by Aoki. He grapplefucked him, but at one point Aurelio snatched his back fast as hell. I thought the upset was coming, but he pretty much shut Aurelio down grappling-wise and was just working GNP. Slightly disappointed that he didn't attempt any subs, but with such a high level BJJ guy I can understand it.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller vs. Kazushi Sakuraba was really quick and one-sided.

Tatsuya Mizuno vs. Gegard Mousasi was short. Mizuno put up a good fight, but Mousasi is just too good.
