nope, in no way shape or form is that the case in any way. There is no-back in my day- bull, going on. I am impartial . individual skills mean nothing if you dont mesh as a team and because of free agency / parity there is no true team play going on. too many rookie QBs doing too well too early and 3 or 4 teams that may only win 1 or 2 games by seasons end mean things suck now, no matter how good the individual players are.

It sounds like you're discounting the great strides college football has made in producing a more pro-ready QB. More and more schools are giving up the option, wishbone, or what have you, for a more pro style offense.

Or Stafford's 61.7 rating 3 TDs and 7 INTs. Oh you must be thinking Josh Freeman, the other 1st round QB, you know the guy with ZERO INTs...yeah...in 4 attempts as he rides the pine.

But to keep saying it after losing 4 games, one of which was a 5 interception performance against Buffalo of all teams, it's just stupid, so STFU about it already. It's proven that rookie QB's in the past have had early success, Big Ben 13-0 as a 1st year starter, McNabb 11-5 in his 2nd and 3rd season, Culpepper 11-5 first year as the starter and lead the league in TD's (33TD), Elway 12-2 in his second season and 11-5 the next two, Dan Marino 14-2 in his second season while leading the league in yards (record 5084) and TD's (record 48). It seems in the past if QB's were really good they were good early. However in todays football there has to be a reason why Rookies are winning games without amazing statistics...maybe it's good coaching. Maybe it has something to do with perpetration. Today with advances in technology, film now being converted to disk or an Ipod, players could conceivably watch film all day anytime they aren't on the field. QB's have been in pro systems since their freshman year in college (Sanchez went to USC, and was obviously taught in a pro-style offense) and today these young guys are being mentored by outstanding QB coaches, where many teams struggled with that in the past as well. Then you add on to the fact that the more successful young QB's landed on pretty good teams, and it's no wonder why young QB's are winning football games despite having pedestrian statistics.

In this age when rookies have game film on ipods, laptops, portable dvd players, the league wide mentor programs to keep rookies out of trouble and focused, and the pre-NFL development of college kids in pro-style systems has changed how prepared rookies are today. Yes rookies are more productive today than in the past because of how prepared they are. That's not to say rookies are better athletes, or that their potential is any greater. But players have more specific roles today, and aren't asked to do too much early on, which leads to fewer mistakes and mental errors. Today it's about suppressing a rookies responsibilities, and taking the rookie mistakes out of the equation. Rookie QB's aren't asked to throw the ball 35 times a game, Flacco averaged 26, Ryan 27 pass attempts last year, anybody can hand off a football 35 times a game. Fact is Turner is good, Roddy White's the shit, Falcons have an above average (but not superior) defense, and that's enough to win games, especially when you're in the NFC south wtih Tampa and Carolina. Ravens last year had a solid run game, Mason was money, and that D always keeps them in the game. So tell me again how Flacco, Ryan, and/or their respective teams didn't deserve the success they had last year?

Its hard to tell who actually may be good because there are so many bad teams in the league right now.

Raiders, Chiefs, Browns, Lions, Rams, Titans, Bucs, -Bills, Redskins ( slightly better than the rest)

Yes...the performance of 2 players allows you to draw league-wide conclusions. That makes perfect sense.

I remember in 1983 and 1984 when the rookie QBs of the class of 83 excelled. I think Marino led the NFL in rating his rookie year, Marino and Elway had their teams in the playoffs their rookie year. In 84, all the QBs were incredible. The mid-80's had some of the strongest teams in NFL history (83 Skins, 84 Niners and Fins, 85 Bears, 86 Giants). The strength league-wide definitely wasn't lacking.

you need to learn how to look at things at deeper than surface level. But , hopefully that will come about in time. Its a simple equation. Too many teams are starting too many inexperienced young people too early before they are trained and developed- too many free agents are bouncing around to different teams not really getting to know the system or players in the system. Coaches are getting fired too frequently for QBs and players to get use to certain schemes/playbooks/philosophies. The players are bigger stronger , faster, thats great. But so what, youre still not getting a quality product with this kind of free agency in place. Sports is entertainment. The attraction is to get people to come see the team live in the stadium. But when its evident after 3 games that 6 or 7 teams completely suck. How can the league expect people to waste money on that.

Just another stat to add to the Manning pile:

He needs 19 passing yards on Sunday to become the 1st NFL QB with 40,000 yards in 1 decade. Marino had 33,508 in the '90s and Montana 30,958 in the '80s.

a great thing by a great player. But also a byproduct of the passing and QB protection rules. Yes, Montana and Marino had most the same but they are more stringent now.
