random thoughts: the Danny scene was boring, so glad you can see the personality change in Jaime and am looking forward to that unfolding, Theon's sister is awesome, Bran storyline has been slow but am looking forward to seeing a certain someone/somones in season 4, can't wait for the Wall storyline shit that's going to go down, the North remembers fuckers, and dammit i'm just excited for the next 2 seasons.

going to be a painful wait. hopefully book 6 comes out soon

Really unfortunate that possibly the most boring Khaleesi scene in the history of the show closed out the season. Im sure it will hold great significance but the whole sequence was rather underwhelming.

The part with the Lannisters at the beginning was the best. Other than that probably the most boring episode of the series.

I was disappointed with the lack of

 

Coldhands. Hopefully he still shows up. Also The Black Gate would've been interesting as well and really set up The Wall and Night's Watch as something more and played up the supernatural element thats always in the background.

I agree. I didn't find it boring at all. A nice regroup after the RW shit show. I didn't love the final scene, but I understand that the showrunners figured watchers needed some kind of a win (even if it was a little corny).

They've ended every season so far with some less than ominous look into the future. For essentially, all but 10m of every season, the focus is on the War of the Five Kings and the Rise of Daenarys...but the end of each season looks ahead to what is really important and that is the threat in the north and what will need to happen for the realm of men to live...Daenarys is obviously a big part of that. I thought it would have been better to end with some sort of bigger reveal or mystery...just to change it up from the first two season endings (birth of the dragons in S1, S2 with the army)...this season ends with the rest of Westeros getting an idea that the threat in the north is very real and the next stage in the rise of Daenarys (ruling a people).

Pretty much par for the course.

Episode 9, to me, was the real season finale. Last night was more like an epilogue.

I don't think people understand the the season finale is all about setting the stage for the future events of the series, not about giving some huge cliff hanger. This isn't Lost where they get someone kidnapped or look down an ominous tunnel. They do major events in the 8th-9th episode, then make sure they get everything fully explained and wrapped up to move on into the next season. I honestly think only one book has ever ended with a cliffhanger and that was the most recent one.

As for spoilers...

 

I'm not surprised at the lack of Stoneheart, she does not appear until the end of the third book, so that means probably not until the end of the 4th season. I am surprised by the lack of Coldhands, though. Maybe they did not want to cast him yet, but they easily could have had a man on a horse with a hood on. He will probably make an appearance next season, with the bulk of his story coming in the 5th season.

Either of those things in your spoiler could be considered "setting the stage for future events". The Yunkai thing was just plain corny, IMO. As for the spoilers:

 

Sorry but, Lady Stoneheart being held off till next season beyond episode 1 would just be bad TV. The end of book 3 as an epilogue works fine on the page, because the books are written from the POV. To have her out of the picture for so long, particularly in light of the Beric Dondarrion episode/convo with Arya, is just bad plotting IMO. This would have put a neat bow on the Beric arch, kicked off the new Brotherhood, and would have made more sense IMO. Not even showing them chucking Cat in the river was dumb, because now they're going to have to shoe horn the thing in.

Coldhands absensce to this point is just plain weird. I'm beginning to wonder if they're just writing him out of it.

I did not want a cliff hanger necessarily. Not at all (although I disagree with you that this show can't end in a cliff hanger -- the books are basically one cliff hanger after another by the end of book 5)...but the way they tied it up...especially knowing where the Dany story goes (or rather, where it doesn't go). It would have been one thing if they had nailed it, but it was pretty cheesy and really signifies nothing that we didn't already know: Dany loves slaves.

Yeah people need to realize that GoT likes to make the 2nd last episode the one with the shocking moment, and the last episode is a wrap-up. They don't need season-ending cliffhangers because there are so many unfinished storylines at work already.

Season 2: 2nd last episode was Battle of Blackwater
Season 3: 2nd last episode was Red Wedding
