GC presents - Washington Redskins Franchise

Franchise Ground Rules

- 11 min quarters with 20 seconds accelerated clock.
- Sliders are a work in progress but will always be harder than All Pro, bordering on All Madden difficulty.
- I will control all personnel for the Redskins including Free Agents, Draft Picks etc.
- To keep things realistic I am only able to sign 2 players each off season above 85 overall (1 on offense, 1 on defense).
- No restarting of games, even heart breaking playoff losses.
- I am doing this mostly for my own enjoyment but always enjoy hearing back from you guys on what you think. I'm a bit of a stat freak so this is a fun way to keep track of things.
- My goal, obviously, is to win a superbowl and I plan on sticking with this for at least a few seasons or until I can get a ring or two.

- I am controlling all 32 teams, but will allow the CPU to do everything in regards to roster decisions, all I will do is overlook their QB situation and make sure it is always a realistic one where if a guy is struggling and they have someone competent to take over I will make the switch.

you are playing the first season or starting in the offseason? Looks good so far may need to borrow the set-up lol

Cheers. I like the setup because I like keeping track of which teams are making the playoffs and which teams aren't so I can switch up quarterbacks when I need to.. I don't think the updates will be too in depth, but just detailed enough so I can remember the memorable games ;)
Happy for you to use the setup.

I'm going to play the 2011 season, but put Manning #3 on the Colts depth chart and figure out what to do with him next offseason.

WASHINGTON MOUNT EPIC COMEBACK, STEAL GAME IN FINAL MINUTE.

With 3:05 to play in the second term, Washington had the ball 1st and goal at the NYG 2 yard line. Four plays later, the ball was turned over on downs. Two plays into their ensuing drive, Eli Manning coughed up the ball to have it recovered by Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander. Before the Washington defense could catch their breath, Grossman fumbled the ball back to the Giants.

The above passage of play was indicative of the first half defensive struggle as both teams went to the break locked at 3-3.

Fast forward to the final quarter, 2:59 on the clock, Bradshaw had just broken three tackles on his way to the endzone on a 35 yard score, giving the Giants a 22-10 lead. Enter Rex Grossman, who up to that point had little to his name minus the lost fumble.

A 6 yard touchdown strike to Santana Moss with 2:16 to play brought them to 17-22, the Washington D held the Giants to a 3-and-out once again, and Grossman was given 1:30 and 2 timeouts to drive 83 yards for the score. A 13 yard touchdown pass to rookie WR Hankerson with 9 seconds to play sealed the famous opening week victory for the Skins, who enjoy an early share of the lead in the division.

ANOTHER FINAL MINUTE THRILLER, SKINS PULL IT OUT AGAIN.

Let's skip to the good part - Washington lead 27-14 5:00 to play in the final term.

Up to that point, the Redskins had forced three turnovers and had a fumble returned for a touchdown. The game had been largely a defensive struggle with two of the five touchdowns being scored by the defensive side.

Back to the good part. On a Cardinals 4th and goal with 4:35 to play, Fitzgerald hauls in a 2 yard touchdown pass from Kolb to bring it to 21-27. The Redskins ensuing possession features no first downs and just 40 seconds taken off the clock. Arizona take advantage of this, as QB Kevin Kolb connection with Doucet for a 62 yard score on the first play of their next possession. The Cardinals lead 28-27 with just 2:29 to play.

The Redskins needed something and Grossman answered the call, going 6/7 on his next drive for 55 yards, already in field goal range - he hit HB Roy Helu on a screen pass which turned into a 13 yard score and a 33-28 Redskins lead with 1:10 to play.

You thought we were done? Kolb shows Grossman up, connecting on 3 completions for 75 yards getting the Cardinals down to the Washington 5 yard line with 21 seconds to play. Kolb makes it 4/4 as he connects for a touchdown pass with WR Roberts, giving Arizona a 34-33 lead with 16 ticks on the clock, following a failed 2 point attempt.

"16 seconds?" Rex Grossman smirks. A poor squib kick gives the Redskins possession on their own 41 yard line. Three completions later, Graham Gano sends through the winning 48 yard Field Goal as the clock hits 0:01, 36-34 Washington.

Still not done. The Redskins force a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, taking it back for a 32 yard score. :smug:

Definitely one of my more memorable games of Madden.

REDSKINS MAKE IT 3-0 BUT CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE IN RUN GAME

Washington have moved to outright first place in the NFC East with a 23-22 victory over Dallas. In what is becoming a common theme for this franchise, it wasn't until the last minute that the win was sealed.

Field Goals marked the difference heading into halftime, with the Skins trailing 10-13. It wasn't until 1:21 left in the 2nd quarter that the game saw its first touchdown with Skins halfback James Davis crossing from 5 yards out. That gave the Redskins a commanding 10-6 lead, before Romo drove Dallas down the field in less than a minute and connected with Miles Austin for a touchdown with 6 ticks left on the clock to retake the lead.

Two Kris Brown field goals marked the only score in the third term as the Cowboys stretched their lead from 3 points to 9 points. Redskins kicker Graham Gano brought it back to a one possession game early in the 4th with a 26 yard field goal.

Roy Helu (34 yards on 16 carries) scored the Redskins 2nd rushing touchdown of the game 5 minutes later, giving them a 20-19 lead with 4:40 to play. Tony Romo, who finished with a 95 quarterback rating, was able to drive the Cowboys down the field and give Kris Brown a chance to push ahead once again, Kris Brown connected with his 5th field goal of the game and gave Dallas a 22-20 lead following the 2 minute warning.

Unfortunately for Dallas, that was plenty of time for Rex Grossman to drive the Skins into field goal range, and Gano hit it perfectly from 49 yards out to hand Washington their third win from as many games.

OFFENSE LEAVES IT TOO LATE TO MAKE MOVE. SKINS DROP FIRST GAME.

Washington were unable to stop the Rams from scoring a touchdown in any quarter, resulting in them being on the wrong side of a 2-5 touchdown ratio at full time.

Despite gaining 10 more yards on offense across the game, 2 Skins turnovers doubled with a 3/11 3rd down conversion percentage left them trailing the Rams all afternoon. Sam Bradford connected on two touchdown passes and Stephen Jackson ran for another, Rams leading 21-9 at the final break. The Redskins weren't able to convert in the redzone, and had to settle for 3 Graham Gano field goal's of 35 yards and less.

Santana Moss finally got the Skins offense on the scoreboard early in the 4th, catching a 10 yard curl route touchdown pass from Rex Grossman, making it a 5 point game, but just when it looked like the Skins had a chance to steal another game late, Bradford connected with Rams reciever Gibson for a 48 yard score which restored the Rams 12 point lead with 4 minutes to play.

Santana Moss again made it a 5 point game, making a brilliant catch and run from the Skins own 13 yard line, but the ensuing onside kick fell into Wasington's grasp, and Stephen Jackson clinche the win on the Rams first play from scrimmage, running it in from 38 yards.

TURNOVERS DOOM REDSKINS

Much as the title describes, it was Washington's inability to hold onto the football which ended up costing them against the Eagles. A see-sawing first quarter which remained locked at 0-0 was broken when Eagles MLB Jamar Chaney returned a Rex Grossman interception 25 yards for the first score of the game.

Washington didn't turn the ball over in the 2nd quarter and hit the lead 10-7 thanks to a Helu 3 yard touchdown run followed by a 23 yard field goal by Graham Gano. With less than two minutes on the clock, however, Vick was able to drive the Eagles and retake the lead with 7 seconds left, connecting with WR Riley Cooper for an 11 yard score and a 14-10 lead.

Philly extended their lead in the 3rd term when McCoy ran one in from 5 yards out, before Gano was again successful, this time from 42 yards, to make it an 8 point game heading into the 4th.

However, two Skins turnovers on consecutive drives ended any hope they had, Rex Grossman picked off again by MLB Jamar Chaney, before Helu was stripped of the ball by CB Curtis Marsh, recovered by DT Mike Patterson.

With the win, Philly move to outright first place in the division at 4-1, while the Skins fall to 3-2. Grossman now has 7 touchdowns to 7 interceptions on the season and a QB rating of 81.7

Washington's front 7 put in their best performance of the year, sacking Vick 8 times while holding McCoy to under 2 yards per carry, the offense however was not able to keep up with the standard of play set by the defense.

WEEK 6 VS BYE

Miami_Dolphins.gif
Bringing up the rear end of the AFC East at 1-4, Dolphins head coach Tony Saprano has announced that QB Matt Moore will start in place of Chad Henne when the Dolphins host the (2-3) Broncos. Henne threw just 5 touchdown passes in 5 games and had a QB rating of just 57.5.

Cincinnati_Bengals.gif
The Bengals announced as well a change in the QB depth chart. Andy Dalton was originally given the reigns, but following a 3 touchdown, 10 interception opening 6 games, Cincinnati have dabbled in the FA pool and picked up Donovan McNabb on a 1 year contract. It is believed Dalton will sit for the rest of this year, and be given a chance to win the job back in 2012.

GROSSMAN FUMBLE IN OVERTIME DOOMS REDSKINS

Both teams defense had a night to remember. Both offenses were kept to under 300 total yards and three touchdowns combined. However, it was the Carolina pressure on Rex Grossman that sealed the win for them, as Grossman fumbled on the 2nd play of overtime, the ball scooped up by Jon Beason for a 17 yard touchdown return.

On top of that, there were 8 sacks on the game, 5 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.

Washington scored the first touchdown of the game late in the 2nd quarter when they were able to get something going offensively, a 74 yard drive ending with a 4 yard touchdown connection between Grossman and Armstrong. This followed two Carolina field goals to hand the Skins a 7-6 lead. Following this, Newton was picked off by FS Reed Doughty and the Skins were able to extend their lead to 10-6 before the break.

The third quarter featured strong defensive play on both sides of the ball, 3 turnovers, and 0 points scored, Washington held their 10-6 lead until DeAngelo Williams finally scored the Panthers first touchdown of the game on a 6 yard run. The crucial play of the drive was made by Newtown, who on 4th and 21, heaved one up to Steve Smith who was single covered, who came down with the grab over the head of cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

The Panthers left 1:50 on the clock, which was just enough time for the Skins to tie the game at 13-13 and bring the game into overtime.

One of the shortest overtimes, as it lasted just 13 seconds. On 2nd and 7 from his own 23, Grossman dropped back and was hit by Beason who forced, recovered and ran back the fumble, handing Carolina their first win of the year.

Adam Carriker, despite the loss, had a game to remember - sacking Newton 4 times as well as forcing a fumble.

SKINS BLOW 20-3 LEAD, GROSSMAN LOSES GAME AGAIN

A case of Deja Vu. Only this one was worse.

Leading 20-3 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd, the Skins almost had this one on ice. Then Rex Grossman's other half enters the game, throws a pick, which the Bills turn into 3 points. Skins up 20-6 heading into the final term.

Washington earned their lead throw 2 Gano field goals, a Dought 65 yard fumble return for a touchdown, and a 3 yard touchdown strike from Grossman to fullback Sellers. Buffalo's 2 Lindell field goals were their only points of the half as the Skins defense dominated once again.

Buffalo bought the game to within a touchdown when HB CJ Spiller capped off a 10-play 82 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run with 3:32 left in the game. Spiller got the touchdown on 4th and goal after 3 runs for no gain. This followed a 2nd quarter chance for the Bills, who had to settle for a 17 yard field goal when the got stuffed on 3rd and goal at the 1 three consecutive plays. The Redskins D dominated all night but found themselves up only 20-13 with 3 to play.

Redskins followed that with a 3 and out, and Fitzpatrick needed just one play to get it locked up, connecting with Johnson from 62 yards.

Grossman then tried his best to lose it in before overtime. Dropping back to pass he saw Cooley underneath, an errant throw resulting in a pick by CB Leodis McKelvin. From the 31 yard line, the Skins aggressiveness on Defense paid off, sacking Fitzpatrick on 3rd down resulting in a 51 yard attempt by Lindell to win the game. The kick was blocked.

Skins won the coin toss in overtime, just like last week. And just like last week, Grossman threw the game away, picked by Safety Donte Whitner who was tackled at the 31 yard line. 3 plays later, Redskins special teams couldn't replicate the previous blocked kick, as Lindell was good from 49 yards, handing Washington their 2nd overtime loss in as many weeks and putting pressure on Shanahan to make a switch at quarterback.

SKINS WITHHOLD 49ERS COMEBACK, BACK TO .500

Washington looked well on top of the game at 14-0 heading into halftime, their lead came courtesy of a Chris Cooley touchdown reception and a Roy Helu touchdown run. It was Cooley's first touchdown reception of the season despite being the leading receiver for the Skins. It was Helu's, who is currently the front runner for OROTY honours, 4th touchdown run of his career.

Frank Gore scored early in the third quarter to bring it back to a 7 point game, before Grossman connected with Santana Moss on the following drive to re-establish the Skins lead at 21-7. Gore, who ran for 81 yards on 22 carries, scored his 2nd touchdown of the game to again bring the 49ers back into it, Skins headed into the final term leading 21-14.

And when receiver Michael Crabtree took a screen pass 44 yards for a touchdown with 9 minutes to play, the Skins looked like they were on the brink of self destruction at 21-21. However, backup HB James Davis who entered the game on the following drive made sure it wouldn't be easy for San Fran, running for a 19 yard score and a 28-21 lead to the Skins.

This time it wasn't Grossman who's poor decision making cost their team the game, rather it was Alex Smith. On the following possession, down by 7 with 5 minutes to play, he was picked off by defensive lineman Adam Carriker who somehow managed to return the ball for a 35 yard score and a 35-21 lead to Washington. Gano sealed the win with a 46 yard FG with 2:40 left to play.

THIRD TIME THE CHARM, REDSKINS BEAT DOLPHINS IN OVERTIME

Rex Grossman and Redskins fans breathed a collective sigh of relief when the Dolphins won the coin toss in overtime and elected to receive, because we all know what happened the last two times the Redskins received the ball in OT, Redskin threw and fumbled the game away in consecutive weeks.

Not this time.

Forcing Matt Moore and the Dolphins offense into a 3-and-out, the Redskins were able to run the ball down to the redzone and set Gano up for the game winning 27 yard field goal on 3rd down, moving the Skins above .500 for the first time since week 6.

Washington started the game in fine fashion, Roy Helu rushing for a 50 yard score on the opening drive, backed up by a 51 yard field goal by Gano to lead 10-0 after one quarter. Gano is 19/20 on field goals for the year.

Moore, who replaced Henne as Dolphins starting quarterback in week 6, connected on two touchdown passes in the 2nd term, sandwiched in between that was another Helu touchdown run to give the Skins a 17-14 lead, before Carpenter tied it up on the last pay of the half with a 43 yard field goal. The Dolphins started the season 1-4 under Henne, and a switch in quarterback has done little for them as they now sit at 2-7.

Miami took their first lead of the game on the first drive of the third quarter, Matt Moore throwing his 3rd touchdown pass of the game and his 2nd to Davone Bess. Grossman was able to tie it up, connecting with Cooley on a 3 yard score, Cooley's 2nd touchdown of the year. Teams went into the final term locked at 24.

Miami were looking threatening on offense, but the Skins D held firm when it counted, limiting the Dolphins to 2 field goals on 2 redzone trips, before Santana Moss put the Skins ahead 31-30 with 5:40 to play.

The lead didn't last long for Washington, as rookie halfback Daniel Thomas ran one in from 32 yards out on the following drive, a successful 2 point conversion gave the Fins a 38-31 buffer with 2 minutes to play. Luckily, Grossman did what he has done a few times this season, leading the Skins offense down the field to tie the game up, Cooley again on the receiving end of a 5 yard pass, scores tied 38-38 with 20 seconds to play.

And this time, in overtime, the Skins got the job done.

The win puts the Skins at 5-4 and within reach of an unlikely playoff berth, while the Fins miserable season continues despite a solid performance by Moore.

The Skins Defense were able to force 3 fumbles on the day, recovering 2 of them.

COWBOYS NO MATCH FOR REDSKINS DEFENSE

With the rain pouring down in Washington it looked to be a game that would be won by whoevers offense could limit their turnovers.

Dallas obviously didn't get the memo, on their first drive quarterback Jon Kitna, filling in for the injured Tony Romo, was sacked by LE Adam Carriker. Carriker knocked the ball out of Kitna's hands, and FS Laron Landry was able to pick it up and run it back 35 yards for the opening score.

On Washington's opening posession, facing a 3rd and 18 from their own 26 yard line, Grossman connected with Anthony Armstrong, who beat single coverage, broke a tackle, and gave Washington a 14-0 lead with a huge catch and run. That lead was extended when Grossman connected with Cooley from 8 yards and a 21-0 lead after just one quarter.

Kicker Graham Gano added the only points of the 2nd quarter giving Washington a commanding 24-0 lead. Dallas offense was not able to get much going all game, going 2/8 on third downs on top of turning the ball over three times and once on downs. Dallas also visited the red zone three times and came away with a total of 0 points on those three visits.

Dallas finally got on the board through a Kris Brown field goal in the third term, before a James Davis 1 yard rushig touchdown gave Washington a 31-3 lead and closed the book on the game. The last two minutes of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter went without score.

Credit for this one goes to the D, particularly LE Adam Carriker who sacked Kitna 3 times, forced a fumble and made 4 tackles for losses. Carriker is currently the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year across the entire NFL. Laron Landry continued a dominant season, recovering 2 fumbles.

SKINS HOLD SEATTLE OFFENSE TO 142 YARDS, ONE STEP CLOSER TO PLAYOFFS.

Washington are quickly establishing themselves as one of the better defensive units in this league. Following the Dallas victory last week in which the Skins held them to just three points, Seattle were unable to score any offensive points this week - their two touchdowns coming from special teams and defense.

Washington started well in the rain as Roy Helu opened the games scoring with a 5 yard touchdown run. The lead lasted just 11 seconds as Seattle's kick returner Leon Washington returned the kickoff for a 100 yard score.

The game was tied at 7-7 but it was becoming obvious that Seattle would struggle to get anything going offensively, they finished with just 73 yards rushing and 69 yards passing in the pouring rain.

What this means is that my sliders will undergo a transformation to make defense a little more difficult.

Washington re-took the lead mid-way through the 2nd quarter when Grossman connected with rookie Leonard Hankerson for a 68 yard score. The lead was extended to 17-7 through a Graham Gano 21 yard field goal in the third term. Washington sealed the victory with another Gano field goal, this one 2 minutes out from time.

Seattle scored a consolation touchdown when Jason Babineaux returned a Rex Grossman pass for a 76 yard score in the final minute of the game. Washigton had 4 sacks on the game.

GROSSMAN PICKED 5 TIMES IN EMBARRASSING LOSS TO JETS.

Washington have had some average offensive performances this year. Week 5 vs Philly, week 7 vs Panthers and week 8 vs Bills come to mind. Add week 14 vs New York Jets to that list. Only this was far worse than average.

New York opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 23 yard Nick Folk field goal, they were the only points of the opening term as teams punted back and forth to each other.

With Redskins HB Ryan Torain playing for the first time since suffering a broken collarbone in week 2, his presence helped change the outcome of the game. Not in a good way. His fourth carry of the game in the 2nd term was a HB lead up the gut on 1st and 10, a big hit from David Harris knocked the ball loose, which was picked up and returned for a 35 yard touchdown by cornerback Darrelle Revis handing New York a 10-0 lead.

Washington bought it back to a one possession game with a Gano field goal mid way through the 2nd term, but Nick Folk was able to bring it out to 10 points again with a 43 yarder of his own, Jets leading 13-3 with one quarter to play.

Mark Sanchez missed the game through injury, but Mark Brunell was able to hold onto the ball and get the job done for New York. The same could not be said for Grossman, who threw an interception to Antonio Cromartie on the first play of the fourth quarter, Cromartie returning it for a 63 yard score and a 20-3 lead. Folk added a consolation field goal late in the game to give the Jets a 20 point victory.

Next week vs New England is crucial. Serious questions are being asked about Grossman starting at quarterback next week as he now leads the league in interceptions.
