Hot off the press!
View attachment 1451Peyton Manning leading the pack in the MVP race. It has been a tremendous season thus far for Peyton Manning, many wondered if he would ever return to his elite status we all know him for after he missed the 2011 season and went through multiple neck surgeries. Peyton couldn't have proved the doubters any more wrong as he is leads the league in Pro Bowl votes with just over 1.1 million and is currently ranked #1 in many eyes as the lead MVP candidate (although a strong case can be made about his brother Eli and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers). Peyton Manning, in fact, is having one of his greatest seasons over his 14 year span. Amassing for 3,600 yards, 30 touchdowns to a mere 5 interceptions with a 61% completion rate. With five games remaining, Peyton Manning ison pace to have arguably the greatest QB season of all time. With over 5,200 yards, 45 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. What is even more surprising is the fact he is doing all this on a new team with a new system. Yet he still has put up these explosive numbers. Manning has led the Broncos to an 8-3 record. Just second behind the Chargers who were able to beat them by three in week 11.
Packers are the roller coaster team of the NFL. Just when you think these guys are the superbowl favourites they look poor and you begin to write them off, then the very next week they comeback and look hot, then the next..You see the trend? The only consistent factor in the Packers has been Aaron Rodgers, who has seemed to have settled down and is looking human again (throwing more ints). Cedric Benson has been surprisingly picking it up, but he too, has been far to inconsistent through each week. But the worst part is the defense. Each week either the secondary or front 7 will look elite while the other looks horrendous, the very next week? They trade places. It's frustrating to see Clay Matthews and co. one week get 9 total sacks but then the very next week, give up 150+ yards on the ground game. I want to love them but they are giving us a lot of reasons to favour the teams like the Chargers and Giants and Steelers who have shown consistency all year. With 5 games left and sitting at 7-4, in a very tough NFC North where the Lions are 7-4, Bears 6-5 and Vikings 5-6. You do not have time to afford a loss now in the season.
What happened to the 49ers? Going into the season they were widely considered the NFC superbowl representative favourite. 12 Weeks in, they are 3-7 with all but no hope left for a recovery. The defense is ranked 5th in thView attachment 1452e league while they have the 26th ranked offense in the league. What do you get? A team that stays in games but never make that play to tie the game or take the lead. Instead, they lose 21-14 every game. Alex Smith looks ok with 21 touchdowns and 11 int's. But his conservative play and low completion percentage (55) leads to games where he isn't winning games. He's just kinda playing it safe throwing little dump offs. With just over 200 yards a game average. Frank Gore has had a good season in terms of yards. With just about 1000 yards, but only 4 touchdowns to his name, 7 in total to the entire 49er rushing attack. The offense aren't making a lot of mistakes, but, they just aren't doing anything. Aldon Smith has been the light of the team, he has picked up 11 sacks and 61 tackles along with an int so far this season. Admitedly, the defense has only caused 5 turnovers this season. Although they force many three and outs it would be nice to see them putting their offense in better field position to put points on the board;
The Terrific TenView attachment 1250
1. Chargers. At 9-2 you cannot deny that they are the hottest team in the NFL right now with 6 straight wins. Over good teams too!
2. Giants. Another 9-2 squad, I felt enticed to put them at #1 but I feel they lack the surge Chargers have right now, and they almost had the Packers beat them last week.
3. Steelers. Since their first loss, they have been 2-2. But no worries as they are on a 2 win streak right now with a healthy Ben Roethlisberger! At 8-3 I like the Steelers come playoffs.
4. Broncos. The highest scoring offense with Peyton Manning (surprised?) Along with a defense that has played very well so far this season. A loss to SD doesn't put them in the top 3 but look out for these 8-3 Broncos.
5. Patriots.The Bills should probably be here, "The Bills, seriously?!" as most of you may be thinking, Patriots took a beating to the Bills in week 11, but a thrashing given to the Colts keeps them in the top 5. Plus, at 8-3 with Brady? That warrants a spot.
6. Bills. One of the biggest surprises this season, if not the biggest. At 7-4 The Bills are looking great on offense, but the defense really hurts their spot. You need a defense in the playoffs and in harsh Buffalo climates, you need a defense to rally the team together for wins.
7. Colts. Not to bash the Colts, but I think their record of 8-3 is a tad misleading. This is no jab at Andrew Luck, who has played well as a rookie so far. They have scored well on offense along with a mediocre defense. I just can't see these guys getting into the NFC conference championship against the teams that they will be up against. Prove me wrong Andrew.
8. Packers. Could be a top 3 ranked team but the inconsistency of this entire squad is what hurts them. They have faced losses against both the Colts and the Giants so I can't warrant them a spot any higher. But Aaron Rodgers is looking hot and there are a few other bright spots on defense and in the receiving core. But with a front 3 that can't consistency eat up blocks and the shotty tackling along with the horrendous O-Line, an 8 is about the best I can push them. Sitting at 7-4 right now.
9. Lions. One of the unsung teams in the NFL right now I would say. The Lions have similar stats as the Colts on offense and defense, but I feel that their potential exceeds these numbers. I see the Lions gaining a wildcard spot in the playoffs and actually making a splash or two..At 7-4 the Lions hope to rally in a second straight win.
10. Saints. Alot of 6-5 teams I could put here, such as the Seahawks, Bucs, Bengals, Bears and Titans. I chose the Saints because of Drew Brees alone. The rest of these teams are lacking a leader and elite quarterback. Brees is both, The offense has sputtered occasionally and the defense looks meh right now, but Brees is one of only a few quarterbacks I'd have trust in leading my team out of hell and into the light. Bears could have taken this spot but injuries have plagued them, badly.
