Players in the 80s got no where the money players these days are getting. I know a guy that played WR for the Seahawks for 8 years in the 80s and he was getting roughly 90k a year.

I think there are some things he's done that are pretty useless (Like all of the uniform restrictions on sock length, pant length, sock color, etc.), but he's done a great job and he's cleaning the sport up. He's by far the best commissioner in sports.

The uniform stuff seems trivial on the surface, but it's a slippery slope if you start letting players wear the uni's however they see fit. They are called "uniforms" for a reason, and its easy to understand why the league wants the players to look neat & professional.

Many of these uniform rules are also in place to protect the interest of the sponsers.

I think David Stern is the best, but Goodell is clearly better than Bud Selig/Gary Bettman. Not exactly high praise, because it'd be pretty hard to be worse at your job than either of those two fuckheads. Goodell has done well, but considering the great shape Paul Tags left the NFL in when he handed it over, he really hasn't had to do much other than to not fuck it up.

Stern, on the other hand, has ushered in a level of prosperity and recognition to his sport never seen before his tenure. Goodell is building off of the work of other great commissioners before him, and while he's done an adequate job, there's much I don't agree with (International series, inconsistent discipline).

Still agree with him continuing as commish, because it's very unlikely someone out there could do a better job. But I think calling him the best in sports right now by a wide margin would be a stretch considering what David Stern has been able to do with what was once a floundering league.
