Blick, I was using the Chiefs in a mock on another site and had them take Orakpo. Thoughts?
Reasoning -- Chiefs have a horrible pass rush...Need LBs and 34 DL personnel...no one else worthy of the spot
Curry is good, but not sure he fits into what the Chiefs are going for and doesn't fill the pass rush need.
I figured Raji would be good considering the move to the the 34, but not really feeling him @ #3 and I didn't feel like trading down.
Anyway, thoughts.
I personally don't like Orakpo, but your reasoning for taking him is justified. I actually like him more than a lot of people. I think he's getting the workout warrior label unfairly. He was still productive at Texas. I'm just a little reluctant to take defensive guys from Texas. They tend to be a little disappointing. I like Everette Brown better.
The Chiefs are hard to pick for in mocks this year because I truly believe that they will try extremely hard to trade down and I believe that Scott Pioli will find a way to get it done. Plus, the Chiefs don't really need the guys that are available at the top of the draft, except for Curry.
Curry would be a nice fit as an ILB in the 3-4. I think he could even transition over to Mike in the 4-3. If the Chiefs could get him around #10, then that would be awesome. I just don't think he's worth it at #3 as a non-pass rusher.
I like Raji a lot. The Chiefs are most likely going to go with a hybrid defense because their 3-4 personnel looks like ass right now. Raji can play in either defense. Lining him up next to Dorsey in a 4-3 gives me wood. But, I think it's too early to take him at 3, especially with some of the character issues he has, and the recent positive drug test at the combine.
I've seen people argue that they could take Monroe or Smith and move Albert to RT. I don't like that idea because Albert looked great at LT in his rookie season, and I think it would be foolish to move him.
I still think Crabtree could be a possibility since Haley had such a nice tandem of WR's in Arizona and Cassel is going to need weapons to throw to.
If you asked me who I would take, I honestly don't know. You should see the Chiefs forum I post at. Nobody knows. Everybody wants to trade down. If we can't trade down, we're fucked. There are a lot of posters over there who would actually still take Stafford or Sanchez at 3, and either hold them for ransom, or keep them and make sure Cassel isn't a one hit wonder. I thought that was retarded at first, but I'm slowly starting to warm up to the idea that they would be able to make a trade easier that way, especially if Stafford goes to the Lions, and the Chiefs screw up everyone's plans and take Sanchez at 3. They would definitely get phone calls and trade offers if that happened, imo.
