I just can't imagine Pujols in any other uni but a Cardinal one, and I think at the end of the day, St. Louis does whatever they can to get it done.

The offer from Miami sets the number, now its really on St. Louis. It is kind of what most everyone expected if Pujols hit the market. Another team to set the value and then the ball is in St. Louis' court.

Not going to post the entire article, but the title and the gist of it is that Duquette's goal is for the Orioles to be .500 or better this year.

I'm all for setting progressive goals, but unless the team signs Fielder or Pujols, pulls off a trade for Gio Gonzalez and Brian Matusz reverts back to his second-half 2010 form, that just isn't a likely goal at all.

Tigers may make strong push for Gio Gonzalez.

You gotta understand, the window doesn't stay open long for a market like Cincy. This team has a bunch of good young players, but clearly needs some pieces. Every winter goes by, and Jocketty never does a thing besides bringing in his yearly backup SS (Cabrera, Renteria). Every trade deadline goes by, and same thing,Walt does nothing of significance (trade Gomes for two b-level dudes, acquire people nobody wants like Jim Edmonds or Willie Bloomquist after the deadline).

The Reds system is loaded, and deep at positions that are already filled. They are at least two deep in good prospects at 1B, 3B, C, etc. GO GET A FUCKING PITCHER. Even if they move Alonso, you have Neftali Soto in the wings to replace Votto if he walks. You can trade Todd Frazier or Yasmani Grandal, because you have Juan Francisco & Devin Mesoraco. You even have tonbs of young arms to throw in like Wood, Leake, or even Volquez.

Take a damn chance, already. Let's go.

I get all that. But there is nothing wrong with waiting out the market while dumb deals get thrown out.

Funny you should mention Bloomquist because he was one of the first players to sign a deal this year. The Diamondbacks wasted little time in locking him up for whatever reason.

Same with the Pirates flushing $9 million down the toilet on Clint Barmes. Or the Mets just handing a 2 year, $12 million dollar deal to an aging reliever with zero sub-3 ERA seasons.

There will be plenty of dealing left after the meetings. Teams have until July to improve. I get that over years and years of waiting you are in a rush but there is no need to blow your load early just for the sake of it.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports writes that the Phillies are among the teams interested in dealing for A's lefty Gio Gonzalez.

Despite having a historically dominant rotation that features Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels, Philadelphia is among about a dozen teams in the mix for Gonzalez. The thinking, according to Rosenthal, is that acquiring Gonzalez would either give the Phillies a built-in replacement for Hamels when he departs via free agency after the 2012 season, or even allow the Phils to shop Hamels to other clubs this winter.
