[ALL] If the next generation of consoles went digital only would you buy one?

These results are not really surprising. Basically, the question is worded in a way where it's asking a bunch of gamers if they are going to continue gaming on the next system if it is ONLY all digital distribution. Even some who don't support only having full digital distribution are going to cave on this when it's the only option.

I think a more interesting question would be "If you could only buy one console next generation, would you purchase a full digital distribution gaming console over a competitor's console with a disc drive?"

If I could only buy one or the other, that wouldn't factor into my decision at all. The 2 factors I would look at way before any other is, how many friends will I have on each, and what exclusives are going to be on each.

Swarley's answer sums it up perfectly. 99% of gamers don't give a shit how the games get to them, they just care how many good ones there are and whether or not the online suite of services is top-notch.

Not having discs is great because a single scratch can completely ruin your software (sometimes caused by the disc drive itself).

I'd probably play more of my PC. Most games that have a PC equivalent are FAR better on the PC due to the modding and online communities. Look at how good Skyrim on the PC is in comparison to the consoles.

I still can't be comfortable with a Keyboard. A mouse, I can do alright. It must come from primarily(really, only) playing with game pads.

Neither movies or music are fully digital with no alternative.

I think a better poll would have been "Would you buy a system with both physical and digital media or one that is only digital, but promoted cheaper games?" since that is likely to be the scenario that happens. In the end though, we both know that games released on both systems will be the same price, so "cheaper games" means nothing.

I put NO, if the prices of games were to remain high. If they were to keep selling games for $60 instead of 40...couldn't see myself buying into it. I have a backlog to keep me from making the move right now. Stores would have to be allowed to sell there codes to games at prices they wanted or even Buy # Get # free sales. There are other factors to whether I would buy an all digital box....could I resale a game back to get a discount on a new game (wiping it away from drive and having to repurchase in order to play it again)?

I just answered the question in the post above. It's one thing to pay $10 for a downloadable game and a completely different thing to pay $60 for a full game that I can't hold in my hands.

Not to mention, I'm curious to see what MS, or whoever else tries this first, is going to do about storage. A 320GB hard drive, which is the biggest they have available right now on 360, ain't going to cut it son. And the prices of hard drives has significantly increased since a few years ago.

I am not sure what the obsession is with being able to hold a plastic DVD in my hands. The only thing I lose is the option re sell my games. I would just have to wait for most games to go on sale or they drop the price. I don't think they will cut the retailers out though. I think you could probably buy codes from stores.

most people on here don't buy games "you can hold" at full price anyway. I think it would be cool to just download everything.....fucking leaving my house.

they will figure it out and also figure out how to suck the most money out of us as well. Look how expensive these Vita memory cards are and us suckers bought them anyway.

I don't see what the big deal is with not wanting digital. Like I said before, I'd still take a physical copy over a digital one, but in the end, it really doesn't make a damn bit of difference to me as long as I get to play the game. Most of the time the only games I sell back anyways are sports titles.

If they implemented a game trade system too where you can swap with people o your friends list, that would completely negate the complaints about that.

see it is going to be hard because right now I have rayman origins on ebay for the vita and it is already up to $31. I paid $30 for it.

I'd hope that if one system goes 100% digital, that the competitor has the wherewithal to realize that the market for people who prefer options is stronger.

This I agree with.

I also just dropped a grand on a gaming laptop over Black Friday, which has more than enough power to last for five years or more without making any upgrades. So if both consoles were all digital, I would wait until the next console generation to purchase one.

Given that I have a couple friends who I play on a regular basis with on XBL are preparing to get gaming PCs, this would make the decision not to buy a console under this scenario much easier.
