If you could re-align NFL divisions/conferences ... how would you do it?

I would imagine they don't put same state teams in the same division so they don't beat up on each other and knock themselves out of playoff contention.

I didn't make that...found it on boxden, but some of those divisions are so bad. The Saints and the 3 Florida teams? Not to mention the Rams/Colts/Chiefs/Browns division.

Redskins/Eagles/Ravens/Giants would be insane though.

nothing bad about that at all. 3 old NFL teams who played each other constantly in the 50s n 60s anyway. It makes sense.

when they reorganized everything into 4 divisions.

the Afc and NFC South are like the orphans no one wanted or respected early on. Either current losing teams or teams with shorter histories. Yes, the Colts n Titans moved,therefore shorter histories.

leave everything the same, but put the Colts in the AFC East and the Dolphins in the AFC South

you could get those natural regional rivalries if the NFL went to 17 games, removing 1 pre-season game. that 17th game could be a regional rival played at a neutral site, preferably like a college stadium. for instance, pitt-philly could be played in Beaver stadium, dallas-houston could be played at DKR, st louis-KC could be played at Mizzou, oakland-sf at the Rose Bowl and so on. only worry would be the teams from ohio and others that don't have a really natural rival. have to figure out some more with those, but you get the concept/

Ive always thought rivalries should be cultivated or grown for obvious reasons like in State rivalries.

rams vs Chiefs, Pitt vs Phil,

Jets-Giants, Redskins -Ravens

yeah. meaning they are already in the same division and play each other twice a year, therefore they have no other conference, natural regional rival.

Get rid of two teams so the NFL has 30 again and have the divisions how they were between 95 and 98.

30 Teams, 6 Divisions, 5 Teams per division. With 5 teams per division I feel as if the whole league would be a little more competitive and most games would mean even more. Less 7, 8, and 9 win teams making the playoffs.
