JA Adande is dumb (Ron Artest's Elbow)

I'm not really understanding your point here.

I'm saying it's a bad look for a sports league to be okay with a guy elbowing another in the head. I don't care if the NBA isn't taking a hard stance on concussions at the moment, there's a growing concern and awareness thoughout all of sports about it.
 
Artest deserves to miss at least the first round for that shit. No place in the sport for that kind of stuff.

I understand the history argument and agree with it, but I'm just surprised at people making it out to seem as if he went after Harden and targeted him. I really don't think he intentionally meant to hit Harden in the head.....I think he was just celebrating and given the fact that he is a very physcial player who has a few screws loose we get what happened. Given his history he should be suspended, but people wanting him to be suspended for the playoffs is a bit much.

He threw it with all his power directly at Harden's head. It was no mistake.
 
The back elbow makes no sense in the context of his actual celebration, so in a way it was partially intentional.

Did he finish the dunk and say "I'm going to elbow this guy in the side of the head"... of course not, but there's no reason he couldn't have ran into him and backed up and just moved on.

I understand that, but my point is that much like steriods head injuries in sports an overreaction. In football okay, in hockey, fine, but in basketball and other less physical sports it isn't as serious of an issue. I'm not saying the NBA should be okay with a guy elbowing another guy in the head and given the fact that a great deal of the public has prejudice views towards the NBA it has to be an issue.
 
I don't really think the head injuries is an overreaction though. It's a huge deal when a majority of players in a sport have degenerative brains. But that's not the topic here, that's for another time.

I'm not arguing anything about the grander scheme of NBA concussions just saying that in an era where people are hyper aware of concussion problems, turning the other cheek to a play cold-clocking another (and that player showing concussion symptoms during testing) is bad form.

Lets not forget Artest is a guy who when a scuffle happens he comes running in to a group of guys and just starts pushing people...point being he is a physical dude. I just don't think he intentionally went after Harden's head......I'm sure he wanted to connect with something, but not necessarily Harden's head....pushing people, throwing elbows, etc is stuff that happens in the NBA. If it was Ibaka he would have hit him in the shoulder and this wouldn't be an issue.

It happens during actual basketball plays yes but elbows like this don't happen commonly. Hence why the NBA doesn't have concussion issues. Physical play =/= to what Artest did here.
 
Maybe I'm reading ralaw the wrong way here but his last few posts seem to have a "It's just Ronny being Ronny" tone to them.

Which I don't get that mindset.
 
I think we all all are in aggreance that Artest should be suspened for a few games 3-5....I'm cool with that. My issue is with those people who want him suspended for the rest of the playoffs. I hope the public outcry doesn't influence the decision.

Honestly, I'd suspend him for the 1st round of the playoffs.
 
He should be suspended at least for the first round when you take his history into account. Harden did nothing to warrant taking a cheap shot to the head, let alone a blatant elbow to the temple. That's bullshit. Artest reared back with all his might on that one, whether he intended to push Harden is irrelevant once the elbow connects.

You do realize there is only 1 game left in the regular season for the Lakers, right? A 5 game suspension is over half of the first round.

Disagree. He intentionally forced contact with Artest probably trying to draw a cheap foul or just fuck with him. He made the mistake of doing it against Artest who doesn't give a damn.
 
So what's your take on it then? Punishment, etc?

Since we have a YouTube of Harden flopping he's definitely an asshole, so what do you think Ron should have done and what do you think his punishment should be?
